With our continuing successful lessons we are looking forward more students in the forge!

A chance to work alongside an experienced and friendly smith, to keep a traditional art and trade alive! I love answering questions on the how and the why of smithing, and sharing that knowledge with those who attend a class.

Each class can accommodate up to 2 people, in order to give the best, hands-on experience, and to benefit the most from your lesson.

Lessons are bookable from Monday to Friday with some Saturday availability, between 10am and 4pm.

Nail making lessons
2 hours, £60 per person

A chance to make one of the most essential blacksmithing products. With heated steel, and some know how, we can produce standard nails ready for use. A medieval house would have had hundreds of hand forged nails!

Hook making lessons
2 hours, £70 per person

Come to the forge for a hook making lesson and give yourself somewhere to hang your hat!
Once tapered down and given a pleasant shape your hooks will be ready to fit to the wall!

Striker making lessons
2 hours, £60 per person

The spark that lights the fire must first be struck! Why not start yours with a high carbon steel striker and flint all produced in Ulster? Our flint is gathered from a historic viking settlement and the strikers are hand forged by yourself!

Knife making lesson
4 hours, £80 per person

Another standby for traditional smiths is the ever useful one piece knife. Made from a high carbon steel, these are sure to keep their edge and remain handy for all occasions.

Tomahawk making lessons
6 hours, £110 per person

Why not upcycle something with us in a tomahawk making class? The tomahawk may have its roots in America but that doesn't mean we can't produce them in Ulster!

From a disused hammer we will produce an axeblade and pickaroon in a traditional style, perfect for bushcraft and for kindling!

Spear making lessons
6 hours, £110 per person

The most common weapon on the battlefield up until the arrival of the modern fire lock. Together we can reawaken part of history with a traditional one handed spear, similar to the one found in Larne as part of a viking burial.

It's that time of year and while the weather has been temperamental its finally Christmas!

We've seen friends, been to some brilliant events and had wonderful students in the forge,

Blacksmithing Lessons 1-2-1 with an experienced Smith.

Introduction to Blacksmithing £60

For a first visit why not come for a 2 hour visit and practice some of the basics of smithing.

This is where we can go through the mechanics of the process and how to setup your fire along with some quick projects to take home such as a flint and striker or a set of ready to fit hooks!

Knife making classes £80

If you fancy a bit more you can come down for a more intensive 3 hour session where we can get right to work. At the end of the session you should have a sharp, hand forged knife all by your own hand.

Spear head making class £120

Together we can make a short spear head which you mount for display later on. This will take about 4-5 hours with finishing so it's ready to be mounted, we also make hooks for hanging the spear!

This can also be done with a reenactment standard tip for combat.

Back scratchers made to length, tripods and firepits, tent pegs, wands and commision projects.

Our last knife making class!

Forgive me for the time it took to get these up!

The lads came down for a double class and spent the day. Each went home with their own hand forged items and I have to say I'm impressed!

Two great students in the shop with lots of enthusiasm and a few strong arms.
