Wonderful day refitting the studio. Thanks to Adam Vanryne, he has swapped out all the mics he had lent me for the Space Elevator album and installed all the new microphones. New install of Cubase, templates and plug ins. Sounding awesome!

This is another Studio Drumcam from the Vanryne Suite, this time it has the drum performance of the recording of Drivin' Home for Otha Smith. I have put the whole track down, but if you just want Otha giving it his full Mike Stern/Lukather/Smith bit and like an excess of cymbals and drummage, then pop along to 4:25 where the great man slams his foot on the old MXR and goes large!!

This turned out to be a bit of a reader, as O had a very specific and quite varying bass line he wanted me to follow...the little devil. Its a sort of straight ahead groover, but has a few sections and a couple of gear changes which are nice.

This was one of the first sessions in the studio after I finished the Space Elevator album and the eagled-eyed amongst you will spot the 8" black tom, as the kit is my trusty old Pearl Masters MMX. At the time it was the only kit I had, before I invested in the main Studio Session Select. Great warm Maple shells and I recorded all of Persona Non Grata on that kit and that configuration! 8x6", 10x8" and 15x14" toms.

This drumcam video from Otha Smith's Sunshine Fields has the end guitar solo sections. The song was heavily rearranged after the drum tracks were laid down, so we have cut the best bits out that match up with the final master soundtrack.

WIth the application of a very small amount of additional skill, we now have Sunshine Fields Drumcam video, with the logo the correct size. Apologies from the graphic designer, who is at his desk (quite often) with his head in hands having a quiet word with himself! Doh!

This is the second Drumcam from the Vanryne Suite, taken during the recording of Otha Smith's Songs Volume 1 Album sessions.

Otha is well known as guitarist and songwriter for the Jazz Funk Band Brother Strut, as well as being the MD for Motown Touring artists The Temptations.

This is a brief excerpt of the song containing the intro, verse and chorus grooves for the tune Sunshine Fields.
