As part of Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating some of the incredible projects that volunteers have made possible at New Mills Art Theatre.

One of our favourite archive photos shows the team who installed our revolving stage in 1972 for Fiddler on the Roof as part of the theatre's Golden Jubilee celebrations. At the time, it was quite revolutionary... quite literally! 🎭

Fast forward to 2019, and another generation of volunteers came together to transform our auditorium. Armed with paint brushes, paste, hammers, determination and plenty of tea, the community helped create the beautiful space we enjoy today - including installing the gold seats that have become such a feature of the theatre.

These projects remind us that New Mills Art Theatre has always been built by people who care enough to roll up their sleeves and get involved.

And we're not finished yet. The next big chapter is the restoration of our bar and surrounding areas.

To every volunteer who has picked up a paintbrush, wielded a hammer, shared a skill or given their time over the years - thank you. You are part of the story of this theatre.

We've recently been looking back through our archives and editing footage from 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐆𝐨 𝐎𝐧, filmed in 1959. Watching the volunteers who worked so hard to save and secure New Mills Art Theatre all those years ago has been a powerful reminder of what this place has always been about: people coming together to create something special.

As Volunteers' Week begins, we'd like to say thank you to all the volunteers who keep the theatre running today. From performers, directors and musicians to technicians, set builders, front-of-house teams, trustees, and everyone behind the scenes, this theatre exists because of you.

We're proud to be part of a story that stretches back generations. The dedication of those volunteers in 1959 created a legacy that continues today, and every person who gives their time helps carry that story forward.

If you've ever thought about getting involved, we'd love to hear from you. Whether it's on stage, backstage, or helping behind the scenes, there's a place for you at New Mills Art Theatre.

Thank you to all our volunteers – past, present, and future.
