Samling Institute is an internationally recognised authority in the training of young classical voices and piano accompanists. Since 1996, we have built a global family of artists, many of whom return to pass on their expertise to the next generation, ensuring that song and opera continue to thrive. We do this through two closely linked programmes:

The Samling Artist Programme provides residentia

l masterclass courses and ongoing development for early-career singers and pianists. Samling Academy supports younger singers in North-East England and through Samling Futures we are building the future of classical singing in state secondary schools. We transform the lives of young musicians, from school students to early-career artists and have created a self-sustaining circle of musical excellence as Samling Academy Singers return to us as Samling Artists and Samling Artists return to lead both programmes.

Congratulations to sopranos Katrīna Paula Felsberga, Bella Marslen - Soprano, Maryam Wocial, mezzo-soprano Sian Sulke, countertenor Will Prior, baritone David Kennedy and pianists Archie Bonham and Yihan Zhao who are now Samling Artists after a week at Marchmont House led by Camilla Tilling, Roger Vignoles and James Garnon. Big thanks to Sid Ramchander and Daniel Silcock for their supporting the week as staff pianists.

We complete our Samling Artist introductions with pianist Archie Bonham and soprano Maryam Wocial. Archie has also been a young artist with Britten Pears Arts and Shipston Song and was official pianist for the Wigmore Hall French Song Exchange. Maryam is the Poppy Holden scholar at Royal College of Music Opera Studio. She was a Rising Star of Voice at the Edinburgh International Festival and a member of Verbier Festival Atelier Lyrique. Maryam and Archie regularly perform together and as a duo will be part of this year's Oxford Song Young Artist Programme. Today, we introduce mezzo-soprano Sian Sulke and baritone David Kennedy, both of whom have just been involved in world premiere performances. Sian, who studies at Royal College of Music, recently appeared in the premiere of 'Rosalind' by Peter Hugh White and Clare Heath with London Mozart Players and David came to Marchmont straight from singing the role of John in the premiere of 'Testament' by Tarik O’Regan and Colm Tóibín with Irish National Opera. In Saturday's public masterclass with Camilla Tilling, Roger Vignoles and James Garnon they'll be sharing their love of song in works by Ernest Chausson and Franz Schubert. Our Artist Programme week at Marchmont House is now in full swing. Continuing our Meet the Artists posts, today we introduce pianist Yihan Zhao and Bella Marslen - Soprano. Yihan is a postgraduate in the collaborative piano faculty at Royal College of Music and is also a prize-winning harpsichordist. Bella is a member of the RCM International Opera School and was recently a Wigmore Hall French Song Exchange Artist. Our new Samling Artists and leaders are heading to Marchmont House on trains and planes and it's time to meet them. We start with Latvian soprano Katrīna Paula Felsberga and countertenor Will Prior. Katrīna appears in leading roles this season with Latvian National Opera including her debut as Musetta. Will comes to us straight from the stage at Garsington Opera where he was an Alvarez Emerging Artist and appeared in Il ritorno d'Ulisse (you may have seen him in our recent video).

We're to heading back to beautiful Marchmont House this weekend when we'll be welcoming a new leader to the Samling Artist Programme, the star Swedish soprano Camilla Tilling. She joins Roger Vignoles and James Garnon to lead a week of musical exploration with our eight new Samling Artists. Meet them in our afternoon public masterclass on Saturday 1 August.
