Our Summer Concert 2025 - Love and Marriage. A light-hearted celebration of all things connubial!
At Snods Edge, nr, Consett, St John's Church and Community Hall.
A concert of two halves.... The first half is in the church, and is somewhat at the highbrow end of things - a deep dive into the Song of Songs from the Old Testament. It'll feature the music of Palestrina, Ola Gjeilo, Edward Baistow and others - but in particular Palestrina; it's his 500th anniversary this year and we'll hear his treatment of the biblical verses in his own very reverent idiom but with some ever-so-slightly-naughty subject matter.
For the second half we'll decamp to the hall next door for an eclectic mix of music celebrating love and marriage - we'll hear madrigals, folk songs, music from the Jazz Age, and the odd Beatles or Elvis number...
Light refreshments provided, of the finger-buffet variety. And there's a well-stocked and fully licenced bar available to help the evening along.
