World Skate Games 2026: participation update
England Roller Hockey has made the difficult decision not to enter teams into the 2026 World Skate Games in Paraguay.
This follows a review of the financial implications for our self-funded athletes, who currently cover all international travel and competition costs.
International representation remains central to our performance pathway and long-term strategy. However, the costs of travel, accommodation, preparation, and competition in Paraguay create an unsustainable burden for players and families. In the current economic climate, it would not be responsible to ask athletes to commit to this level of expense.
This reflects ongoing challenges within UK roller hockey funding, where limited government support and insufficient structures from the British Roller Sports Federation restrict sustainable international programmes.
While this decision is made with deep regret, athlete welfare and the long-term health of our pathway remain the priority. We are pleased to confirm our Under-17 Male and Female teams will compete in this year’s European Championships in Braga, Portugal, where costs are manageable, and the pathway for emerging talent continues.
England Roller Hockey remains committed to returning to World Championships as soon as conditions allow and to building stronger, sustainable support structures for our athletes.
