✨ DRAMA ✨

Those of you that follow my work may have noticed that I LOVE black and white/monochrome!!! ☺️

For me, it is the absolute contrast in the values that create the textures, the details and the drama! 🎭

It is completely reliant on the viewer filling in the colour, the graduations, the highlights and the textures, both from imagination and recognition!!

I love this experiment with the black background 😊
With just the face of the Spaniel showing, encompassed by the rich blacks, our eyes are automatically drawn to the facial features.

Surely this is where our eyes should land; on everything that makes our beloved pet unique and different to the next in line at the vets!

👉 PROGRESS 👈 ?????????

4 years ago, I finally decided to pick up my pencils after decades of no serious drawing at all.

I simply just drew anything as practice and drew pretty much every day ✏️✏️✏️✏️

The photo on the left shows my first ever attempt at a German Shepherd Dog and I can remember being really pleased with the results at the time 😊

The photo on the right shows my latest attempt at the same breed............

I know that every time I pick up my pencils, I continue to learn and increase my knowledge of my chosen craft, which is exactly what holds my interest and passion.

Personally, I am thrilled with what seems to me to be a direct comparison and shows that I have made huge progress with my drawing skills and techniques ☺️

Hi Everyone

Another Christmas commission I'd like to share with you is this handsome boy, Tanq.

Justin asked me if I could draw Tanq, for his daughter as a Christmas present for her.

We were rather limited on photos and I feared we wouldn't be able to go ahead as none were showing the details that make my portraits what they are.

We settled on a photo although I knew it was going to be a challenge!

I have to say, those curls were a challenge in themself. I'd go to bed dreaming about those curls!!

Finally, Tanq's portrait was completed and I am so happy that I persevered.
I love the result and so did Justin when I presented him with the finished piece 😊

A little bit late but.....
🥳 HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳

I seem to have been dragging my feet getting into 2026 so thought it was about time that I caught up with everyone with a follow up from 2025

The last time I posted, I was knee deep in commissions for Christmas. I am happy to say that all were completed on time with some very happy customers 😊

These four gorgeous pooches were commissioned by Wendy Hughes. Four completely different personalities to capture which I'm happy to say I have achieved.
Wendy was over the moon with her portraits and couldn't wait to get them hung up on the wall to show them off.
Thank you Wendy for your patience with my photography of them all. We got there in the end and I love the results ❤️

LEOPARD

I've finally completed this piece after approx 50+ hours!

Another challenge to achieve the blackest black but I'm pretty pleased with the end result 😊

He's going to look great next to my tiger 🐅

These will all be available to buy as Giclee prints at the fair that I'm exhibiting at.
My very first fair so wish me luck🤞

I'm so happy I attempted this tiger.
A challenge because achieving true black with graphite pencils is near on impossible meaning I had to bring in new pencils which I'd never used before.

I nearly gave up half way through but glad I persevered as I love the final result.
