Foundations In Art

Foundations In Art As a portrait artist, I specialize in the meticulous recreation of portraits in the old-period style.

I employ classical oil painting techniques reminiscent of the late 16th Century, a process that entails the creation of an underpainting, the use of hand-crafted oil paints derived from traditional pigments, and the application of multiple layers of specialized glazes. This intricate and time-honored process typically spans no less than a month, requiring the delicate layering of as many as 20 coa

ts to achieve perfection. I cordially accept commissions for contemporary portraits, both of individuals and beloved pets, and I execute these with the same dedication to the classical oil painting approach described above. Your cherished subjects are brought to life through this enduring and venerable method. Furthermore, I extend an invitation to those who harbor a deep fascination for exploring the exquisite technique once favored by esteemed artists like Rembrandt. I am delighted to host workshops in classical oil painting methods and materials within my art studio, nestled in a 16th Century former coaching inn. This historic venue, once graced by the presence of Queen Anne, resides near Henley on Thames in South Oxfordshire, UK. Join us in a journey that upholds the timeless beauty and tradition of classical artistry.

I love this blackbird that my student finished on the classical oil painting methods and materials course today. We worked on it together with little demonstrations followed by practice by the student. Just in time for the start of spring!

Reinassance to Contemporary Art Work Lisa McGinty ART

10 years ago after attending a weekend workshop in beginners oil painting techniques, my new hobby soon turned into a passion and a new career.

I went on to attend various workshops and classes in life drawing as well as studying the great masters painting techniques. Through studying master works , I understand colour harmony and tone, re-creating some of the works in my own paintings.

I now sell my work and create commissions for different styles of interiors.

Inspired by a large honeysuckle plant in my garden.
