Back to a bit of colour 🎨

After spending a lot of time working in graphite, it felt so good to pick up the acrylics again and loosen up a little. There’s something really freeing about working with colour after focusing so much on detail and shading.

I loved playing with the contrast in this one — the softness of the flowers against the darker tones of the horse 🤍

My latest graphite drawing and definitely the one that’s taken me the longest so far.

There were moments where it felt like it would never come together, but taking my time with the layers and details really paid off. I’m genuinely so pleased with the finished piece and how much I’ve learned along the way.

Thanks for following my little art journey — more to come 🤍

As 2025 comes to a close, I wanted to reflect on everything I’ve created during the year.

This year was about learning and rebuilding confidence. I spent a lot of time with graphite, really focusing on shading, light, proportions and taking my time with the process. Some pieces were challenging, but I learned so much from sticking with them.
Alongside that, I also enjoyed working in acrylics. My sketchbook became a space to loosen up, explore colour, texture and movement, and just enjoy painting without pressure.

Not everything was shared, and not everything was perfect, but every piece taught me something. I feel proud of the progress I’ve made and grateful for the encouragement along the way.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported my art this year.
Here’s to more creating, learning in 2026 💛🤍

I was hoping to get this Highland cow finished before Christmas, but it took a little longer than planned.
Lots of time spent on texture, layers and getting that shaggy coat feeling right.

Better late than rushed.
Hope everyone had a really lovely Christmas 🎄

Hands are definitely one of the hardest things to draw. This piece took some patience — getting the proportions right was a challenge, and the shading ended up being much tougher than I expected.

That said, I’m really pleased with how it turned out. It feels accurate and solid, and I learned a lot along the way, which is always a win.

✨ New graphite piece! ✨
This one has taken me a good while to bring to life, but I’m so glad I stuck with it. Getting the proportions, angles, and little details just right was definitely a challenge… but those challenges are exactly what make the finished piece feel so rewarding.

Feeling really happy with how it turned out. 🖤✏️

This week’s art practice has been all about graphite — slowing down, studying light, and learning how different shading techniques can completely transform a drawing.

These three little studies are from a Kirsty Partridge course, each one focusing on something different:
🧸 soft textures
👟 tricky shapes and shadows
🎠 storytelling and contrast

✨ Back to graphite! ✏️
I haven’t posted in a few weeks, but I have been busy behind the scenes. These graphite pieces are all practice studies from another Kirsty Partridge course — each one focusing on a different shading technique.

It’s been so good to explore value, texture, and contrast, and really get comfortable with the basics again. Even small exercises like these make such a big difference to confidence and control.

Work in progress finally finished 🎨
This piece took a little while, but I’ve really enjoyed layering textures and colours.
