As a Cornish artist, my work is inspired by my surroundings. With the natural environment at my fingertips, picturesque Cornish landscapes and beautiful flowers are brought to life through the medium of felting.
‘Feltmaking’ is a very ancient business but is a relatively new craft to me and it has fast become a fascinating and unique way of creating unique pieces of art. I have a love of colour, pattern and textures, the tactile nature of the wool enables experimentation to create individual pieces of art. I make all my felt by hand using the wet felting technique. The process takes time and love but I am always rewarded with something that stands alone ready to be embellished with a needle, threads, hand stitching and machine embroidery. Laying down the wool fibres is just like having a painter’s palette of colour, I pick, choose, and blend colours together to create the look that I want. It truly is ‘felt painting’.
