DAY2: MACHINE OR HAND? ๐Ÿ’›

I use both in my work. After wetfelting and drying my work, I use free motion machine stitching to give definition and shape to the flowers and leaves. I love the unpredictable outcome of this technique.
The last stage of my process is the hand embroidery embellishing that adds the extra details and texture. This is probably my favourite. I can slow down and zone out as it has a meditative effect, keeping me firmly in the moment. Especially sewing in the garden this summer, bliss! X

DAY1 : INTRODUCTION ๐Ÿ’™
Hi, I'm Lynne a textile artist, based in North Yorkshire.
It's my first time taking part in and I will try and post everyday!
My art combines a variety of techniques, particularly felting, incorporating silk fabrics, machine freestyle sewing and hand embroidery. I often include wool portraits in my work set against luscious backgrounds. I'm excited to connect with like minded souls through my artwork x

A little bird told me ๐Ÿ’™

Decided to change a few things on this origional piece. It just wasn't working for me. I'm feeling happier with it now, pushing and pulling, adding and taking away. I feel the embroidery stage coming on which is exciting xx

I like to work on a few pieces of work at the same time. If I get a bit stuck with one I can just dip into another, learning and adapting as I go.
This one is at, what I call 'the ugly stage' after wet felting. Usually when it has dried alot of elements have moved or are misshapen.
I then prod and reshape using needlefelting until I'm happy with the composition.
Tomorrow I will use my sewing machine to help define the flowers and birds. X

Today would have been Queen Elizabeth II's 100th birthday. It still seems strange that she's no longer with us. She was such an ever-present part of my life. A few years ago I completed this portrait of her for the Knitting and Stitching Show. I'm still pleased with what I captured of her likeness and her sometimes sense of fun. Still available if you would like her on your wall x
