M27 Junction 10 Upgrade Set to Open Early.

A major boost for Hampshire drivers is on the way, with the M27 Junction 10 upgrade confirmed to be opening months ahead of schedule.

According to the BBC, the new junction expected to carry around 30,000 vehicles a day will begin phased opening from 14 September.

Key features include new slip roads, four roundabouts, and a 60m underpass installed using a Christmas “box slide” operation.

The project, costing over £100m, was originally due to open in winter 2026.The westbound off‑slip, underpass and roundabouts will open first, with remaining on‑slips following later in the autumn.

Temporary 50mph limits between junctions 9 and 11 will stay in place until safety testing is complete.

Man jailed after £3,000 shoplifting spree across five towns including End.

A 38 year.old Southampton man has been jailed after stealing more than £3,000 worth of goods from stores in West End, Hedge End, Chandler’s Ford, Eastleigh and Southampton.

Laurence Benjamin Cuthbert, 38, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to 32 shoplifting offences when he appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (27 August).

He was sentenced to eight months in prison.
The offences involved the theft of laundry products, meat, cheese, alcohol, sweets and coffee from multiple stores between 14 May and 19 August, including:

Co‑op, Shakespeare Road, Eastleigh
Tesco, Swan Centre, Eastleigh
Co‑op, Hursley Road, Chandler’s Ford
Sainsbury’s, Leigh Road, Eastleigh
’s, Tollbar Way, Hedge End
Marks & Spencer, Coles Close, Eastleigh
Tesco Express, Wessex Road, West End
Co‑op, Bassett Green Road, Southampton
Tesco Express, Burgess Road, Southampton.

Police statement
Sergeant Ralph Akehurst, of the Hedge End Neighbourhood Policing Team, said he was pleased to see Cuthbert jailed, adding that the sentence provides “much‑needed protection” for affected stores.

He highlighted that repeat shoplifting is not a victimless crime, often creating fear and worry for retail workers, and stressed that officers will continue to target habitual offenders and support local businesses.

Police are urging shop owners and staff to continue reporting incidents via 101, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website, or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

Drivers are being advised of a full weekend closure affecting the M27 Junction 10 westbound off‑slip towards Wickham.

The slip road will be closed from 9pm on Friday 11 September until 6am on Monday 14 September, as planned works continue on this stretch of the motorway.

The closure will impact all westbound traffic leaving the M27 at Junction 10, with motorists required to follow diversion routes throughout the weekend.

National Highways has published the diversion map for drivers at the link provided.

Officials are urging road users to allow extra time, plan ahead, and check routes before travelling, particularly during busy weekend periods.
