England’s attacking quality shone throughout, but defensive lapses remain a concern, with Croatia twice capitalising on loose marking and slow reactions inside the box.

England edged a chaotic first half before taking control after the interval in a high‑scoring World Cup clash with Croatia.

Harry Kane opened the scoring from a retaken penalty, only for Martin Baturina to smash in a powerful equaliser on 36 minutes.

Kane restored England’s advantage six minutes later, rising to head in Declan Rice’s corner.

Croatia hit back again seconds before half‑time, with Petar Musa guiding a composed side‑foot finish past the keeper to make it 2–2 at the break.

England reasserted themselves early in the second half when Jude Bellingham fired them back in front, and substitute Marcus Rashford sealed the result late on with a confident fourth.

Border Force officers have made the largest cannabis interception in UK history after seizing almost 12 tonnes of the drug at Southampton Port in May.

The haul discovered across two shipping containers has an estimated street value of £139 million, according to officials.

Investigators say the scale of the seizure represents a major blow to the organised crime groups attempting to move drugs through UK ports.

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of facilitating the imports and remain under investigation as enquiries continue.

Border Force and the National Crime Agency are now working to establish the full route and network behind the record breaking shipment.

Drivers on the M27 are finally set for smoother, faster journeys, with National Highways confirming that long running restrictions between junctions 5 and 7 will be lifted next week.

Testing and commissioning on the upgraded stretch will conclude by 6am on Tuesday 23 June, allowing all four lanes to reopen in both directions and restoring the 70mph limit.

Variable speed limits will continue to operate when required.

The project has involved resurfacing the old concrete carriageway with almost 90,000 tonnes of low noise asphalt, alongside extensive drainage improvements, barrier upgrades and concrete repairs.

Officials say the result will be a quieter, safer and more reliable section of motorway.

Two final overnight closures are needed to remove temporary signage: Friday 19 June — M27 junction 8 eastbound entry slip road, 9pm–6am.

Tuesday 30 June — M3 southbound to M27 eastbound link road, 9pm–6am.

Signed diversion routes will be in place.Temporary restrictions will remain around junction 8 due to separate bridge‑maintenance work, while Hampshire County Council’s junction 10 upgrade is still expected to complete this winter.

A community group has been left shocked, angry and heartbroken after thieves stole around £10,000 worth of garden equipment from their storage container at Bartley Park.

The Friends of Bartley Park, based off Ashurst Bridge Road, discovered the break‑in between 17:00 on Thursday and 10:30 on Friday, finding their green shipping container forced open and vital tools missing including strimmers, mowers and a brand‑new wood chipper.

Teresa Young, a retired police officer and long‑standing volunteer, said the group was stunned by the scale of the crime.“They must have had a lot of people because there was a lot of tools that were stolen,” she said, describing the incident as deeply upsetting for a team that has spent five years transforming 25 acres of woodland and grassland into accessible, wildlife‑friendly spaces.

The group won a BBC Make a Difference Award in 2025 for its work revitalising the park.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is investigating and urging anyone with information to contact then .
