Behind The Green Door - A Survivor's Story

Behind The Green Door - A Survivor's Story Live and filmed drama that informs, educates and, ultimately, saves lives. Green Door is a play, a film and a workshop. What's behind the Green Door?

Production company, Made It Theatre, has evolved to become Behind The Green Door, a true story, a play and a workshop focusing on raising awareness of domestic abuse. If I knew then what I know now...

If my story can stop even one of you from falling into the same trap that almost ended my life, then I'll be happy - I'll be happier still if I can reach thousands! From young, insignificant, mum a

nd housewife, to penniless punchbag, to professional writer, speaker and activist in just 20, largely excruciating, years. Let my true story, condensed into just 60 minutes of traumatic, funny and ultimately triumphant tales from my roller-coaster of a life, be your shortcut to a happier existence. A live event via Zoom or, where social distancing is possible, face to face at your company, your organisation, your group. Come on in, and let me tell you all about it...

Congratulations is one of my favourite words.Shortlist is another of them.

Green Door ought to be deeply depressing. However, the demonstration of Ann Brown recovering her self-esteem is an inspiring story of finding the courage to take the first step towards change told in an energetic and engaging manner. - David Cunningham, The British Theatre Guide

The first time my husband attacked me, I was asleep in bed. The last time my husband attacked me I was on the sofa, watching telly. I am alive today because I curled into a ball and protected my head.

This is a still from the making of Green Door, the 60 minute film that tells my story of surviving domestic abuse.

Today I travel the world - via the Internet for now - showing my story, answering questions, empowering others.

Then, I was beaten, broken and silent. Now, I am a writer, a speaker an educator.

BOOK NOW - find out how I turned my life around, learn how you too can do the same.

**TRIGGER WARNING**

Five months ago I told my story online because I don't want any other woman to be punched, kicked, spat on, strangled, verbally abused, financially ruined, mentally abused, terrorised, defamed and driven to the point of wanting to die, by someone who is supposed to love them.

That is what happens to you when someone chooses to inflict domestic abuse upon you. That is what happened to me when my second husband made that choice.

Last week a group of people visited schools in my region, delivering materials and information about a service they have created, a service to help protect children who live in a home where domestic abuse is perpetrated.

The idea for these materials and this service came as a direct result of my story, Green Door, being heard.

The initial financial input came, in the form of donations, from the people who watched my story.

Thank you Elle Bee and the EdShift team, you're all blooming marvellous!

I've been a bit quiet of late. That's because I've been busy planning the next big adventure.

More news coming soon, but in the meantime, take a look at what The British Theatre Guide said about Green Door and make a note to keep an eye out for more announcements.

"Ann Brown does not deny she intends her autobiographical play Green Door to raise awareness of domestic abuse and the corroding effect of low self-esteem.

She concludes her solo performance by taking questions and declaring a willingness to tour educational establishments and community centres.

Potential customers who are concerned this approach will push the play into the ‘worthy but dull’ category need not worry: this is a powerful, compelling and highly imaginative production."
