I am constantly heartbroken to read the news, listen to the radio, see posts and hear directly from activists on the situation in Palestine, amongst so many other atrocities happening to fellow human beings across this earth. And to hear that our UK govt has upheld the proscription of Palestine Action as a terrorist group is just another devastating blow and so incredibly worrying for our right to protest which is being totally stripped away. People who caused criminal damage destroying drones to be used in a genocide have just been locked up for between 6 and 8 years on terrorist charges right here in the UK πŸ’” Remember what the suffragettes did to get us women a vote?!

You might follow my page for all things wool and weavingπŸ‘ but I'm a human on this planet and this stuff is relevant to me and relevant to us all. You can scroll past if you don't like it. I don't post much about it but recently I have joined Halifax Friends of Palestine as I felt I just needed to be doing SOMETHING rather than just feeling so helpless all the time.

They are a wonderful group of people who have been campaigning for 20 years for the rights of Palestinians. They are made up of people of all faiths and none, Jewish, Muslims, Christians and atheists all standing together against the genocide in Gaza, the stealing of land and the torture of Palestinian prisoners held without trial.

Standing against the actions of a state is absolutely not being against any religious group or ethnicity. Standing with Palestinian people is absolutely not supporting Hamas.

Next week is Calderdale Palestine Week, packed full of culture, connection and creativity. You can join at Northgate House, Halifax to explore the exhibitions and art installations, hear talks and join workshops and activities. Hear directly from Palestinian women visiting directly from the West Bank. I'll be bringing my craft and activism together teaching a needle felting workshop making watermelon brooches/earrings/necklaces/patches πŸ‰ and there's a Tatreez embroidery workshop too 🧡 all starting with a fabulous launch day on Sunday with the amazing molly.tilston and Daniel Bath

If Calderdale won’t fly a flag then we will bloody well do it for them!! Come join us for our 2nd P.Ride bike ride and this year we have added something rather spectacular… a puppy walk! But worry not if you don’t have one just come walk anyway and support your friends, your neighbours, anyone from the lgbt+ community, show them they are included and we’ve got their backs! If Calderdale won’t fly a flag then we will bloody well do it for them! This valley is renowned for its community, inclusivity and friendship, do the ride or the walk or camp up along the way and cheer us on! Sunday 19th July see the programme.

Can you believe that Calderdale council is now Reform led and has banned the flying of the Pride flag during Pride month on all council buildings? 😀

Why?? June is national Pride month, and Hebden Bridge and Todmorden are known for being progressive, inclusive LGBTQ+ friendly places. Why are some people set on us moving backwards? πŸ’”

One of these council buildings includes Shibden Hall, which was home to Anne Lister (portrayed in the historical TV drama Gentleman Jack), considered to be the UKs first out "modern le***an" in the early 1800s.
Anne Lister is an icon for the LGBTQ+ community and the Anne Lister Festival is a big annual event in Halifax celebrating her birthday 🌈🎩

I was honoured to be asked to run a Needle Felting workshop at the festival in April, bringing Yorkshire wool and the LGBTQ+ vibe together πŸ‘πŸŒˆπŸ˜ ... And having seen the amazing results I was asked by Bracken at Feline Woodcraft Shop Todmorden to run a Pride felting workshop at their wonderful cafe and shop! β˜•πŸ₯°

So here we have the date and another F you to the Reform council who it seems would like to only see the union flag and no rainbow colours around our wonderful boroughπŸ–•πŸΌπŸ’ƒπŸ»

πŸŒˆπŸ‘Thursday 16th July 6:30-9:30 at Feline Woodcraft Shop Nanholme Mill, Todmorden πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

You'll make your own little Sheep from British wool and can add a rainbow, "LOVE", flowers or whatever your creativity brings! All are welcome πŸ™‚

A portion of each ticket sale will be donated to The Proud Trust who do vital work supporting LGBTQ+ young people β™₯️

This is also just before Happy Valley Pride kicks off with a whole host of events and activities across the valley from 18th - 26th July. Check it out! πŸ™ŒπŸΌ
