ARTIST BIO
Clive is a documentary and fine art photographer who developed a love for photography since being presented with his first camera when 17 years old. Initially trained and working as a landscape architect, including 10 years experience in China, he retired from the profession in 2015 to fully pursue his passion for photography.
Clive has always had a particular love of black and white photography with the preference in using black and white film, both medium format and 35mm. From those very first days helearnt the subtleties of black and white photography – how to visualise a scene in black, grey and white tones, and to see the image in terms of light, shadows and textures. With this focus he believes the use of black and white allows the very soul of the image to be expressed which is the essence he strives to show in his work.
By developing the film himself, scanning, processing the image on his computer and printing on his own large format printer on archival papers he has full control of the image from camera to print. This, he feels, is important to the creative process and provides a more intimate and personal approach to his fine art work.
