Coro Nuovo Choir

Coro Nuovo Choir Coro Nuovo is rated one of the best choirs in the area with a proportion of trained singers. Coro Nuovo was founded in 2013 by Andrew Rees and Catherine Kent.

A mixed voice choir covering a repertoire from Renaissance to Modern. Three major concerts a year with additional recitals from Coro Nuovo Voices. It is a choir of up to around 45 experienced singers who are keen to improve their singing and performance. We are an occasional choir, coming together for concerts in the Spring, Summer and Christmas with typically four or five rehearsals per concert.

Our first Music Director (between 2013 and April 2022) was Andrew Rees. We are very grateful for Andy’s nine years of service to Coro Nuovo, including starting the annual Coro Nuovo’s Sussex Young Musician of the Year Competition (see below). He has given us a great foundation to build on and to take the choir forward. As a result of our not-for-profit status, we have established an outreach programme. This has been running since 2016 and supports Sussex young musicians – choral or instrumental – who are studying music and are at the beginning of their professional career. Our annual Sussex Young Musician of the Year Competition offers bursaries to support their learning and development and also offer a platform to perform with Coro Nuovo at concerts.

Juliet (flautist) wins £2500, Dorothy (soprano) wins £1500 and Edelyn (clarinettist) wins £750.
