Thanks to all the great staff at The Lens for their support, our wonderful team of Music leaders that helped the show run smoothly, all the talented performers, plus the music fans that braved the weather, over 100 audience members on a Wednesday was amazing to see! :)

Here are some photos from the night, captured by the amazing Mr Joe Watson.

It was a great May! Here’s what we got up to last month:

Even though we had a few Bank Holidays and a Half Term break, Music Fusion still delivered over 130 hours of bespoke 1-2-1 sessions. A big part of these are school sessions, with our partners at Glenwood, Harbour, Prospects and Park Community funding 1-2-1 sessions for students. There’s been house music, metal, ballads, pop, rap, grime and more!

Jinx and Mike attended Portsmouth Music Awards, run by Matt, Kizz and their amazing team. This was the second year of the awards and it was absolutely incredible. Great to see so many studios, producers, bands, solo artists and venues from across the city represented and celebrated. Jinx won the Impact Award, which was a very special moment. Congrats to Jinx for the award, plus to Matt, Kizz and the team for putting on such a great event.

More tracks are coming in for this cycle of Mavericks Lines, which is very exciting! This round we’re looking to connect with other organsations, to reach a wider audience. There are a few things in the pipeline which should be really interesting collaboration-wise, more on that later!

We’ve had 6 more referrals in May, from Motiv8, Social Workers, Youth Justice Service, Social Prescribers and parents. All young attendees had a tour a chat, then received an offer tailored to their needs. Some are already attending 1-2-1 sessions!

Rockschool have been busy, writing, jamming and prepping for the next Coalesce gig. It’s next week at The Lens Guildhall, Wednesday 10th June, doors at 6pm. We have some awesome acts lined up for you, plus the much celebrated 2 hour open stage! Here are some photos from the last Coalesce gig, from our talented pal Joe Watson.

April has been a fun one, here’s what Music Fusion got up to last month:

Our 1-2-1 sessions have been eventful, with young attendees writing for the next Mavericks Lines release already! We’ve had an amazing Hip-Hop song drop in already from one of Kizz’s young people, plus Neil is mixing metal and indie bangers from the Rockschool crew. There’s also been influences such as musical theatre, ELO and Slipknot to name a few!!

Across the board, all group sessions are very well attended. The BASE, Rockschool and Beats & Bars are all incredibly fun and super productive sessions, with a massive mix of styles, sounds and genres. It’s been great to see regulars, plus some new faces enjoying collaborating.

We’ve had 8 new referrals in April, from Social Prescribers, Youth Justice Service, Care Homes, Parents and more. Each new young person has a quick tour and a chat, then we make them a tailored offer, based on what they’re interested in. We aim to have a quick turnaround, so after they accept our offer, ideally they’re in the studio making music within a matter of weeks.

Thanks to our pal Tim Greaves from Southsea Sound for delivering a bespoke Health and Safety course for our Music Leaders. Who’d have thought someone could make training like that so personable and entertaining, whilst getting the serious points across. Cheers Tim. 😊

Jinx and Mike were lucky enough to be featured on Express FM to promote the upcoming Coalesce night, which was hosted at The Lens Portsmouth Guildhall on the 15th April. Another superb evening showcasing so many talented young artists. The open stage performers all played with a lot of heart, we had everything from Heavy Metal congas to a Disney lightshow shuffle! Thanks to the headline acts who all delivered very special sets, plus the amazingly supportive crowd. Big shout to Archie for putting the night together.

Music Fusion are looking for new partners to come and join our award winning Mavericks project.

What is Mavericks?

Mavericks is a project aimed at inspiring young people aged 12 - 25 who are at risk of being drawn into or already involved in serious violence, crime and exploitation to make better life choices. We aim to help our young people to focus their time and energy to do something productive, rather than commit violent crime. We aim to use our young people’s music, lyrics, stories and experiences to inspire and support others facing similar challenges.

Do you work with young people aged 12-25 years old? Would you like to have a chat about how we could work together? If so, please do get in touch.

Thanks for an amazing month, here’s what we’ve been up to in March! 😊

We held our AGM, to review the last year’s work, plus discuss next year’s provision with young people, parents & carers, partners and funders. Thanks to all that came along to support, it’s greatly appreciated.

We were also super lucky to receive some lovely goodies from Jacqui, our Community Champion at the local branch of Tesco. We’re now stocked up with books, pens, extra stationary and some additional treats. This will help support our Mavericks Lines project, which is in full swing!

The first cycle of Mavericks Lines has been completed, with a sprawling collection of genres; power pop, lo-fi rap, indie acoustic and more! To support the release, we filmed to low key, stripped back performances in our office and live room, available on our YouTube channel, along with some awesome lyric videos. See the links below for the album:

The next cycle has already started, with Rockschool bands and friends recording in our studio for the past 3 days. Expect epic metal, indie rock and more!

Our new night “Coalesce” second event is being hosted at The Lens in Portsmouth Guildhall. 6pm, April 15th. We have some incredible acts booked; La Remo, Brooke Star and Liam’s Code Name, plus a whole bunch of acts that will be gracing the open stage segment of the night. Expect everything from metal to musical theatre!

Our Easter Egg raffle winner has been decided, thanks to all who dipped into their pockets for this, the winner will be announced by The Spring, we’re sure they’ll be a very happy bunny.

Wishing everyone a great Easter weekend.

A quick update on our AGM and the last 12 months.

We would like to thank all the young people, parents, guardians, partners and stakeholders who came to our AGM on Saturday the 21st March. For those of you who were unable to pop along, here are the headlines, and some great photos taken by Joe Watson.

Over the last 12 months Music Fusion delivered 1626 total hours of music making. This included:

• 1216 hours of 1:1 bespoke sessions
• 256 hours of group sessions
• 154 hours of provision in schools

We have worked with over 300 young people, of whom 52 were direct referrals in a moment of crisis.

We worked with many partners including Park Community, Redwood, Glenwood, Harbour, Cowplain, Prospects and Fairways Schools. We facilitated The Rumble Sale, The Rockschool Showcase, The Power of Music, Mavericks LINES and Coalesce.

We listened and our young people, parents, guardians, partners and stakeholders inspired us. Thank you. Your expertise made sure we were doing the right thing. Most importantly, you helped fund our work when we needed it the most.

Proof that together we are more than just a music charity.
