"There can't be many places better to be…" 🌳

We're rather chuffed. came along to FBTO this year, and their review of Seasick Steve's set had some very kind words for the day - calling us “one of the most laid-back festivals around, and just the place to be on a long, hot Sunday afternoon”. We're inclined to agree!

Steve strolled on as the sun dropped towards the tree line, opened with a knowing "this is a folk festival, right?", and worked through what felt like a different homemade guitar for every song. Cigar boxes, a plank-and-wire diddley bow played with an old screwdriver, hubcaps and a broom handle. Raw blues, a few tall tales, and by the end he was down at the front shaking hands and signing guitars.

A proper showman, and a golden-hour set we won't forget in a hurry.

Since our very first festival back in 2008, Folk by the Oak has been proud to support the same charity, year after year, the wonderful Willow Foundation 💜

And this year you outdid yourselves. Thanks to ticket contributions, the raffle, the silent auction, and everything raised on site, Sunday brought in an incredible £14,156.30 for Willow, the highest total the festival has ever raised!

A special mention to their pop-up shop, which was a genuine highlight this year, a treasure trove of pre-loved fashion that went down beautifully with the crowds. Add the bubbles and craft activities keeping little ones busy, not to mention a stunning Willow session in The Grove from of Leeds Conservatoire 😊

Every penny goes towards something that truly matters. Willow is the only UK charity providing special days and treats for seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40, precious time away from the reality of serious illness, making memories with the people they love.

18 years of doing this together, and it means as much as it ever did. Thank you - for your generosity, and for being the kind of crowd that gives so freely.

We asked for your favourite shots from the day, and you have kindly shared some amazing ones with us 📸

Our comments filled up with the festival as you saw it. It's been an absolute joy scrolling through them all!

Picking a winner was no easy task… but one image stopped us in our tracks.

Congratulations to SB Kawasaki - a truly beautiful capture of the tree at golden hour and a worthy winner of our photo competition!

Today we wanted to celebrate our fantastic festival photographer Tammy Marlar Photography ! 📷💚

When she is not in our field taking incredible snaps – she is an astonishing and accomplished nature photographer.

Her travels this year have yielded some pretty epic photography with her work taking her to Zambia, Greece, Bulgaria and India (as well as Hertfordshire!).

We thought you’d enjoy this magnificent selection of the highlights of her trips…

Every year, The Grove comes alive for what has quietly become one of our favourite hours of the whole festival, the ceilidh! 💃

Watching people stumble out of the tent afterwards, giddy and grinning from all that dancing, it was the perfect way to see us into the evening.

A huge thank you to and the Lost Boys for leading the way this year and getting everyone up on their feet and spinning 🫶

One of the loveliest things about Folk by the Oak is just how much there is for younger festival-goers to get stuck into, all within sight and sound of the music 🎶

Over in the Family Area and The Grove, little ones had their pick of the day: fairy dancing and a maypole, puppet shows in the Little Spinney, circus skills, face painting and bubbles, craft tents full of things to make and take home, storytelling between the sets, and even a unicorn or two. Add climbing and archery, singing workshops and a family ceilidh, and there was barely a moment to sit still!

And while the kids were busy? Grown-ups could stretch out on a picnic blanket with the music drifting over - everyone sorted, all in one lovely spot 💛
