We’re excited to welcome Rachel Doyle to Bus Stop Studios this summer for not one but two very special workshops.

Rachel .studio trained at the Royal School of Needlework, where she now teaches and works in the studio on some incredibly high profile embroidery projects. She also takes on private commissions and teaches her own groups. We’re thrilled to have her travelling down to St Leonards to share her skills with us.

Rachel will be teaching two one-day workshops, each running 10:30am to 4:30pm with a lunch break, and all materials are included in the price.

Introduction to Hand Quilting, 25th July
Make a beautiful mini quilt while exploring three different methods of hand quilting, which can then be finished into a practical quilted needlecase. Written instructions are included in your kit to take home.

Introduction to Box Making, 22nd August
Learn the traditional technique of covering card with fabric and sewing the pieces together to create a fabric covered box with a hinged lid. All cutting is done for you, with a choice of fabrics on the day. The finished box is approximately 8 x 8 x 4cm.

Natural Yarn Dyeing Workshop with Tara Macdonald

Love yarn, colour and making something completely unique? Are you a knitter, crocheter, embroiderer or all of the above??

We are so excited to share this workshop as part of the Bus Stop Studios Summer School program, exclusive to Bus Stop Studios, taught by our lovely tutor Tara Macdonald (Natural Dyer).

In this friendly, hands on session you will learn the basics of natural dyeing with plant based materials, then spend plenty of time experimenting to build your own palette. You will dye wool yarn with a choice of 2 ply (great for embroidery) or DK (ideal for knitting or crochet), and you will go home with a set of dyed mini skeins plus an instruction leaflet so you can repeat the process again.

Beginner friendly, no experience needed.

All materials and tools included. Places are limited to keep the group small.

Bus Stop Studios Summer School: Knitting & Crochet with Katie Jones

This summer we are thrilled to bring you four classes as part of our Summer School programme, all taught by the brilliant Katie Jones, celebrated knitwear and crochet designer, author of Hip to Be Square and known for her bold colour palettes and joyful, inclusive approach to teaching. Her work has been featured by the V&A Museum, Selfridges and Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas. Follow her at

Whether you are picking up needles or a hook for the very first time, or you have already taken one of our classes and are ready to develop your skills further, there is something here for you.

Evening Knitting Course
A relaxed six-week course perfect for building skills at a steady pace. Join us on Monday evenings for two hours of guided knitting in a friendly, supportive space. Mondays 6:30pm to 8:30pm, 13th July to 17th August 2026.

Evening Crochet Course
Six weeks of crochet on Thursday evenings, taking you from the basics through to building real confidence with the hook. Thursdays 6:30pm to 8:30pm, 16th July to 20th August 2026.

Summer Knit School Week
A five-day immersive knitting experience in the heart of summer. A brilliant way to spend a creative week and really get to grips with your knitting. 20th to 24th July 2026, 2:00pm to 4:30pm daily.

Summer Crochet School Week
Five days of crochet to sink your teeth into. Whether you are a beginner or brushing up on your skills, this weeklong course is a wonderful creative treat. 3rd to 7th August 2026, 2:00pm to 4:30pm daily.

Do you fancy spending a weekend getting completely lost in colour, texture and the satisfying rhythm of punch needle rug hooking?

This two-day introductory workshop with textile artist and educator Kasia Hamilton is the perfect creative escape for beginners and curious makers alike.

You will develop and transfer your own design onto backing fabric, explore essential tools and materials, and build confidence with core techniques including loop height, texture and colour changes.

No experience is necessary, just bring your enthusiasm and curiosity!

Kasia is based in St Leonards on Sea, has a background in interior design and lectures at UAL. She brings a warm, holistic approach to her teaching and will guide you through every step. www.kasiahamilton.com

Crewelwork Embroidery Summer School with Becky Hogg

Step into the decorative world of crewelwork embroidery: flowing vines, bold florals, playful animals, and beautifully textured stitches. This weekly long, relaxed, beginner-friendly course introduces core crewelwork stitches and how to build them into a finished design, with plenty of guided practice.

As part of Bus Stop Studios Summer School, it is perfect for a creative holiday by the sea: stitch in the morning, then spend your afternoons exploring St Leonards. (We have accommodation recommendations too, just ask.)

Becky Hogg is an accomplished embroidery artist and experienced tutor with a real love of traditional techniques and their modern possibilities. Her teaching style is friendly, encouraging and accessible, with thoughtful, step-by-step guidance that helps you build confidence as you stitch. Becky is a regular tutor at Bus Stop Studios, and she is known for creating a calm, supportive atmosphere where beginners feel welcome and more experienced stitchers can expand their skills.
