Come and get free energy advice at the IBC on 22nd July 2026 between 12.30pm and 3.30pm and 29th July 2026 between 9.30am and 12.30pm with Energise Sussex Coast.

Energise Sussex Coast can help with problem bills, energy saving, solar, grants, staying warm, insulation, heat pumps and water bills.

Private room available for private discussions, café on site serving food and drinks, fully accessible building and facilities, dog friendly.

Pan-seared Skate cooked in a sultana, caper and butter sauce and served with tender stem broccoli and parsley mash. Locally-sourced fish and veg - this is really, really tasty!

Our brand new Conti espresso machine has been delivered and installed by Rye Bay Coffee today — and we couldn’t be more excited!

We’ve waved goodbye to the push-button machine and upgraded to a proper espresso setup, which means rich, barista-style coffee is now on the menu. Come and taste the difference!

FREE TALK: The America Ground — Hastings’ Hidden History

Ken Brooks returns to the Isabel Blackman Centre this March to explore one of Hastings’ most fascinating and little-known stories — the America Ground.

Tucked away in the heart of the town, this small area hides an extraordinary past. Once an ownerless stretch of shingle beyond Hastings’ boundary, it became home to a unique community that lived and thrived outside normal authority and in homes made of scrap metal. Part settlement, part experiment, and part legend, the America Ground’s spirit of independence still echoes in Hastings today.

Join us for this wonderful free talk and discover a surprising chapter in the town’s history — without giving all the secrets away!

Just one hour a week can make a real difference.

Our befriending volunteers offer regular phone calls or visits to older people who may be feeling lonely or isolated. It might seem simple - a chat, a listening ear - but for someone who spends much of their week alone, that call can mean everything.

And as Luan shares, volunteering doesn’t just support the person receiving the call - it changes the volunteer too.

If you have an hour to spare each week and want to help beat loneliness in East Sussex, we’d love to hear from you.

The Isabel Blackman Centre has undergone an incredible green transformation and we're very proud 💚

When we opened in 2022, the building was burdened by legacy systems designed for an era of cheap energy and low environmental awareness.

Today, thanks to incredible work by our Facilities Manager, Nick, smart upgrades - including point-of-use heaters, rooftop solar panels, and a switch to 100% renewable electricity - the IBC has already cut its carbon footprint by 70%!

We’re now in active discussions about how we can further reduce our footprint, with the aim of becoming a carbon-neutral, community hub in the future.
