I think the worst thing corporates have done is marketed and pasted our heritage on retail items but priced and placed it in everyday budget because it’s not the real deal made in 🇬🇧 People, including country folk just buy it without thinking or realising till later. I hate to say this but it’s got so much worse! Why would other nations print Highland Cow and Swaledale sheep onto mugs and bedding? To make it cheaper! Which undercuts those who originally thought of it and choose to do it the hard way because the hard way is the right way!

Textiles only designed (aka marketed in the U.K.)
Copied and mass produced stuff which should have been granted patent status I.e. Fair Isle design!
Wool garments.
The list goes on and on and we talk about wool but it’s right across the board.
Small business brands just getting buried on social media
Pictured are real heritage items genuinely made in Great Britain and the marketing is the finishing touch on the full production line, not the cover up to get people to buy without thinking about where it really comes from. Yes I talk about our U.K. but equally it’s happening in other countries too.
Today I’m pledging this rule which I have done for a long time and I’ll try and stick by it as much as possible…… ANYTHING which is native to Britain or British branded to be purchased with the full back story right from the land 100%. Anything which isn’t produced here which is produced globally is purchased and imported supported a small business directly from the local relevant origin. Enough of corporate paste over of everyone’s heritage and craft. Absolutely fantastic to import unique goods from their sites of production supporting people.
Instead of buying loads of affordable stuff try buying one AMAZING item. Then you’ve got superior quality, less clutter, less to throw away and something that is built to last. Have or make a beautiful conversation piece with a story. If it’s too expensive already made why not buy the materials, study and have a go at making it DIY?
I want to finish this on a real positive! Whilst the corporate paste over is getting worse, the homesteading, crafting and making, the genuine item purchasing is actually getting better. That is because the niche who understand what I’ve just written are actually investing in the latter more. Look how busy genuine producers are getting again? I know I’m slanted British but the same facts apply to global producers.
Let’s pride ourselves with the best, the real deal, not the cheapest copycat.
