We are so excited!! Who’s joining in the yarn trail this year?

The North Yorkshire Yarn Trail starts on Saturday 12th September and runs until Sunday 27th September. 14 places are taking part this year, and Yarn Trail Maps, as shown below will be available to pick up, along with your passport from 7th September, watch out for your local shop saying they have them in stock. The Premise is easy, visit a participating shop, collect a map and passport. Collect stamps on your passport as you visit shops along the trail. No purchase is necessary to collect a stamp. The shops taking part will have various events and competitions within them, please follow the shops individually on social media too for more details. Yarndale takes place on Saturday and Sunday 26th and 27th September at Skipton Auction Mart. This is a separate ticketed event, please see their website. Some of the shops on the trail do have stands at Yarndale, and the Yarn Trail will be represented at a stand there too. You can gain an additional Yarndale stamp from the Trail stand at the show. The BaoBao Shawl by Isabell Kraemer is one of those projects that is an absolute joy to knit – playing with colour as you go to create a wonderfully lightweight shawl with a fabulous contemporary feel.

For our Yarn Etc BaoBao Kits, Fiona has put together a gorgeous palette of 13 colours of Lang Noelle 4ply, carefully selected to work beautifully together. Noelle creates a wonderfully light fabric, making this a shawl that is easy to wear, layer and wrap around you without feeling heavy.

We have created two colourway options, each containing the same beautiful mix of shades but with a different main border colour:

Cream Border – finished with a soft, warm cream
Pale Blue Border – finished with a delicate, barely-there blue

We have given you Fiona’s exact colour recipe if you’d like to recreate our shop sample, but this is very much a play with your colours kind of project. Follow our sequence, swap a few around or throw the recipe sheet to one side and create your own – your kit, your shawl, your rules!

Based at the award winning Yarn Etc. Knaresborough Road, Harrogate, in the fantastic Den of Yarniquity tucked away at the back of the shop (we are like a tardis… 😉 )

During the session you will learn all the basics, how to read a good starter pattern and will start your journey to crochet! We will be covering the basic stitches and how to place them into simple patterns to get you started, there is also an online tutorial if you fancy having a go at granny squares afterwards too!

We’ve taught hundreds (if not thousands now!) people to crochet, and we only teach in person. So we really do know what works! 3 hours is all it takes, you don’t need anymore than that!

During our popular 3 hour workshops, you will be guided through the basics. You will learn the tips and tricks and discard and few myths along the way!

You'll receive a goodie bag with all the crochet accessories and helpful bits and bobs you need to get started too!

We only take a small number per workshop, it’s important to us to have you all at arms reach and give you the attention you all deserve! (Suitable for left and right handed learners…)

If you’ve tried to crochet in another learning environment, please don’t give up! This is something we experience frequently! We will get you going in no time! 🧶🧶

How’s this much cooler Sunday suiting everyone, it’s much easier to knit and crochet when it’s cooler isn’t it!

I’ve finished my BaoBao shawl and I have to say I’m chuffed to bits with it.

Lux Louvain should have hers finished soonish too, how’s everyone else getting on with their shawls/scarves/cowls and have we any more vests to see, I’m loving them all 🥰
