Meadow browns take two...I had a go at softening the background colours (by re-wetting and dabbing paint off with a paper towel). I think it helps to keep the focus on the butterflies and creates contrasting tones. In my original (photo 2) all the colours were a similar strength so your eyes weren't drawn so much to the butterflies. Thanks to Sandra at Paint Stitch Bead for the very helpful advice. This painting has been a great way for me to experiment with techniques. I really value constructive criticism, so please always feel free to offer thoughts and opinions. π
