We are delighted to announce the new name for our club - ‘Harpenden Harmony’

The chorus originally formed in Harpenden in 1984 as ‘The Kings of Herts’ and for over 40 years we retained The Kings of Herts name which is still dear to us and the history of the club. We are a mixed chorus singing four-part close harmony 'A ca****la' style with a wide range of music from film, musical theatre, folk, pop and even sea shanties! We are full of ordinary people from all walks of life who love to sing in close harmony and enjoy creating a unique and wonderful sound for our audiences to enjoy. We don't take ourselves too seriously and the focus of our rehearsals is fun and learning.

We rehearse on Thursdays 7.30pm at Wood End School, if you fancy having a listen or having a go you are very welcome to come along!

Spring Sailing Social

The Kings of Herts recently enjoyed the spring sunshine by taking a cruise down the Blackwater estuary from Maldon in Essex. It was a beautiful day, perfect for enjoying both good company and singing.

Our vessel was a beautiful sailing barge called the Thistle that had been carefully restored back to its heyday of the late 1800s. After a sumptuous lunch we entertained the crew and sang a few sea shanties – led very capably by Peter and Ronan - plus some other club favourites such as Shenandoah. A very good day was had by all.

The Kings of Herts are seeking a new Chorus Director!
We are seeking a Director who is passionate about music, has a good understanding of Aca****la and close harmony singing and can bring fresh ideas and energy to our performances. We welcome applicants with a diverse range of musical backgrounds and experiences. Experience of singing in the Barbershop style is a plus but is not essential.
The Kings of Herts is a fun loving chorus that has been singing in harmony for 40 years. We enjoy performing regularly for audiences across our community, and also sing at private functions and music festivals. The chorus meets on Thursday evenings in Harpenden from 7.30 to 9.30pm.
Further information about the Kings of Herts can be found on our website:

Kings of Herts’s 40th Anniversary Charity Concert

Following our recent and highly successful 40th anniversary charity concert, club members were officially thanked for all their efforts by representatives of Macmillan Cancer Care at a recent rehearsal.

The concert was a joint enterprise with St. Albans’ very own Abbey Gateway Orchestra and all proceeds from the evening of £2,000 were raised for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Local Macmillan representative Sue Hobley thanked the chorus on behalf of the charity for all their hard work in organising what was a very enjoyable evening. Sue herself was also celebrating a 40th anniversary of volunteering and fundraising for Macmillan.

New club chair Ronan McArdle said “The concert was the culmination of the club’s celebrations for its ruby anniversary year. It was a fun evening with all proceeds going to a very good cause. We now look forward to a new year of new songs and new challenges. New members are always welcome of course, just see www.kingsofherts.co.uk for details and come along to a rehearsal.”

40th Anniversary Concert 16th November

Many thanks to all our friends, family and supporters for making it such a great evening. It was a fitting celebration for 40 years of harmony singing in Harpenden plus we also had music from our special guests, the Abbey Gateway Orchestra to complement the singing.

Then there was a world Premiere for Charlotte Botterill's song trilogy, In Retrospect, which was written especially for us AND we also raised over £1900 for Macmillan Cancer Care!

A great evening all round. We know many of the audience enjoyed the evening...because they told us so!
