A little reassurance before the evening begins.

You are allowed to just watch. Nobody needs to volunteer for anything.

You are allowed to ask questions. Curiosity is genuinely welcome here.

You are allowed to be sceptical. That reaction is part of what makes the moment real.

You are allowed to stay in your conversation. The magic will find its way to you.

You are allowed to ask for something different. Every group gets its own experience anyway.

You are allowed to simply enjoy it. That is, honestly, the whole point. ✨

No scripts. No stage. Just unforgettable moments shared between friends, family and colleagues.

You've seen it on the booking form. You've read it on the quote. But what actually is close-up magic, and why does it land so differently from anything else at an event?

Here's the simplest way I can put it. Close-up magic happens in your hands, at your table, right in front of your eyes. No stage. No distance. No curtain between the wonder and the person having it.

And that closeness isn't just a description of where I'm standing. It's a promise. There's nowhere to hide and nothing to hide behind. Every reaction you see is real, because the person having it is right there next to me.

Stage illusions ask you to look from far away and believe. Close-up magic asks you to look as closely as you want, and still not believe what just happened.

That's why it works where it does. In the gaps of a wedding reception. At a boardroom table. Beside a trade show stand. It travels to people rather than asking people to travel to it.

So next time you see the term on a quote, that's what it means. Magic sized for a human moment, designed to happen exactly where you're standing. ✨

Curious what that looks like in practice? Get in touch and let's talk about your event.

This is what a good day leaves behind.

A deck of cards, worn soft at the corners. No sawdust, no paint, nothing dramatic to photograph. Just this. It's been through every hand in the room tonight, bent and softened by people who turned up as strangers and left knowing each other a little better.

That's the part people don't always see about close-up magic. Every performance is shaped around the people standing in front of me. One group has impossible card magic happening in their own hands. Another gets a borrowed ring, or a prediction, or a moment they can't explain. No scripts. No stage.

After thousands of weddings, corporate events and trade shows, I've learned that great magic isn't really about fooling anyone. It's about bringing people together. Wedding guests who've only just met. Colleagues loosening up at a company do. Delegates who wandered over to a stand and stayed for a chat.

The aim is always the same. Create moments people actually remember.

And when it's gone right, this is all that's left on the table. A tired deck.

The receipt for an evening well spent. 🃏

I had such a great time performing at Ben and Monisha’s wedding at the stunning Leez Priory

A beautiful venue, a brilliant atmosphere and so many fantastic reactions! It was a real pleasure entertaining their family and friends and being part of such a special celebration.

A fantastic night of close-up magic at Sarto Lounge in Sidcup last night! 🪄

I woke up this morning to even more 5-star Google reviews from people I performed for throughout the evening.

⭐ “Incredible!”
⭐ “Very clever magician and professional!”
⭐ “Amazing magic… we’re still mesmerised!”
⭐ “Absolutely phenomenal!”
⭐ “So friendly, funny and completely baffled…”

And these are still only a selection of the reviews from one night!

Restaurant magic is one of my favourite types of performance. I can walk up to a table of complete strangers and, a few minutes later, everyone is laughing, reacting and trying to work out what on earth just happened. 😂

What makes these reviews particularly nice is that people have gone out of their way after getting home to find me on Google and leave their thoughts. That genuinely means a lot.

A huge thank you to everyone I met at Sarto Lounge, and to the team for having me along.

If you saw me performing last night and haven’t left a review yet, I’d really appreciate it if you would. Just search “Andy Jamieson Close-Up Magician” on Google and you should find me. Every review really does help my business. 🙏

I think we can safely say Sidcup was well and truly baffled! 🃏✨

A brilliant night at Sarto Lounge in Sidcup! 🪄

I absolutely love performing close-up magic in restaurants because you never quite know who you’re going to meet or what reactions you’re going to get.

Tonight certainly didn’t disappoint.

These are just five of the reviews I received after performing at Sarto Lounge this evening’s , and reading comments like:

⭐ “Absolutely phenomenal”
⭐ “We’re still mesmerised!”
⭐ “So friendly, funny and completely baffled”
⭐ “Brilliant magician”
⭐ “Really got me!”

…makes for a pretty good end to the evening!

The best part for me is seeing a table go from wondering why this bloke with a pack of cards has just appeared, to laughing, shouting and desperately trying to work out what they’ve just seen. 😂

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped to watch, got involved and then took the time to leave me a review afterwards. It really is appreciated.

And thank you to the team at Sarto Lounge for having me.

If you were there tonight and I performed for you, which trick got you the most? 👀🃏

Most couples plan their entertainment for the evening. But some of the moments your guests remember most happen long before the dancing starts.

Here are three gaps in the wedding day where the atmosphere can stall, and how a bit of close-up magic keeps everyone smiling.

1. The Drinks Reception Gap
While you're off having photos taken, your guests are left to fend for themselves. It's the longest unstructured stretch of the day and the first real chance for people who have never met to either connect or stand around awkwardly. Entertainment here sets the tone for everything that follows.

2. Between Courses
The wedding breakfast can drag between courses, especially at large tables where not everyone knows each other. Something happening at table level keeps the energy up and gives guests a shared experience to laugh and talk about, rather than checking their phones.

3. Evening Arrivals
When evening guests arrive, you suddenly have two groups in the room who have lived completely different days. A few minutes of shared entertainment is the fastest way to blend both groups and get the party atmosphere going before the dancing begins.

The weddings guests talk about for years are the ones where something was always happening. The gaps matter just as much as the big moments.

A little throwback to a brilliant wedding at the stunning Leez Priory Wedding Venue
I’ve just received these photos from the day, captured by the incredibly talented Matt from Visions of View - Wedding & Event Photographer, and I absolutely love them.
One of the things I enjoy most about performing at weddings is seeing the reactions on people’s faces. You can describe close-up magic, but photos like these show exactly what it adds to the day: laughter, surprise, disbelief and guests genuinely sharing a moment together.
Leez Priory is an incredible venue too, and it was a real pleasure to be part of such a fantastic wedding there.
A huge thank you to Matt for capturing these moments so perfectly.
If you’re getting married and would like your guests laughing, reacting and talking about the entertainment long after the wedding is over, feel free to get in touch.

Wedding entertainment: live band or close-up magician? 🎶✨

Both keep your day feeling alive. A live band fills the room with atmosphere and gets everyone dancing. Close-up magic works its way through your guests while photographs are being taken, or between the parts of the day when people are waiting around, keeping everyone smiling, laughing and talking.

For me, great magic isn't really about fooling people. It's about bringing people together. It's the perfect ice breaker for guests of every age, and it creates moments they'll still be talking about long after the wedding is over.

So, which way would you go on your big day? Let me know below. 👇

A little throwback to one of the best weddings I’ve ever had the pleasure of performing at!

& Josh’s wedding was an absolute blast from start to finish, and this video review they recorded afterwards still makes me smile a couple of years later.

There was such a brilliant atmosphere, fantastic guests and some reactions that I definitely won’t forget.

It’s always lovely when couples take the time to leave a review, but having something like this on video makes it even more special.

Thanks again, Lewis & Josh. What a wedding! ❤️
