In the meantime we are grateful to Nathan Collins who currently directs St Michael’s Church Choir, Bishop’s Stortford and New Edition Singers, Harlow and is standing in as our interim MD until the end of the summer term.

Musical Director Spotlight - Simon Pettite

Simon Pettite is an internationally recognised Chorus Director and Choir Trainer. He studied at the Cambridge University and the Royal College of Music. Professional engagements include the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (as a regular freelance member of the Music Staff) and as Guest Conductor, Choral Director and Assistant to Iceland, Antwerp, Germany as well as regular collaborations at Opera North.

Simon Pettite has built a long-standing career in Germany as the Assistant Opera Chorus Director at Frankfurt Opera and Opera Conductor and Chorus Director at the Municipal Theatre at Freiburg im Breisgau.

Our chairman, Julian Roques, commented “I am very much looking forward to our first concert with Simon as Musical Director of the de Merc Chamber Choir. We are all keen to showcase the wonderful work we have done together and highlight the beautiful unaccompanied choral works to our audience.”

We are very excited to annouce our first concert of the year under our new musical director Simon Pettite!

We have been working hard with Simon to put on a wonderful concert and we are very happy to have an internationally recognised, prize-winning conductor to lead De Merc into its next chapter.

Not long now until we perform on Saturday 16th November at St John's ARC in Old Harlow!

We will be singing a beautiful selection of sacred music from T.L. de Victoria to Palestrina.

Also, we will be led by Derek Harrison who co-founded the choir so it is always extra special to have him perform with us.
