Just for a change, here is something completely different to what’s on my grid already 😅

I always think it would be best to just stick to one type of thing, either my Etsy shop stuff, watercolours, nudes etc but I enjoy doing all sorts of art and that’s something I’m learning, that it doesn’t need to always be the same thing. Variety is the spice of life as they say.

This is a little picture I’ve drawn for my lovely nephew who is Pokémon obsessed, with a particular obsession right now with a Pokémon called Castform. So I thought he might like a picture of him with some Castform friends.

Luckily, Pokémon are super easy to draw as it’s basically just adding geometric shapes together.

My hyena is done, and I have to say, I almost didn’t post this because I’m not overly pleased with the outcome. But it felt somewhat disingenuous to not post it and only ever post things that turn out how I wanted it.

Anyway, this is the amazing spotted hyena. As I said in my last post, they have a bad reputation (which I’m sure is partly due to The Lion King 😂) but they live fascinating lives in clans with complex social structures where females rule the roost.

One of my favourite memories from South Africa was sleeping out under the stars in the bush one night. We took it in turns to stay up for a couple of hours to keep an eye out for predators and about 10 minutes into our watch we heard the tell tale whooping of spotted hyena. They moved around us for the remainder of our watch, but I thankfully never had to figure out what to do if it came into camp 😂

I’ve been enjoying my little foray into watercolour South African animals, so here is another and it’s another bird. This time it’s a violet-backed starling.

With such beautiful colours, this was definitely a good one to really test out my “colouriest watercolours”. I also used some shimmer watercolours by which I love, but it didn’t pick up very well on the scanner. You’ll just have to take my word for it there is some purple shimmer there!

Now trying to decide what to paint next, it will probably be another bird, which is funny because until my last trip to SA I never had any interest in birds… until I went to and throughly converted me!

Another African animal today, and this time is my favourite African bird, the Bateleur! This beautiful eagle has such a unique look that just makes it perfect for painting.

This is the first bird I’ve ever drawn/painted and it turns out, feathers are hard 😅 definitely need a bit of practice on them!

Now trying to narrow down some of my other favourite South African creatures for me to draw next 🦅

Anyone who knows me knows that my favourite place in the whole world is South Africa.

I was reminiscing about times I could actually go on holiday and looking through some photos of one of my SA trips and decided to paint this lovely giraffe using the watercolours I got for Christmas ( Worlds colouriest water colours)

Hopefully some day I’ll get to go back and see some giraffes again 😅 though they probably won’t be this yellow..

Happy new year everyone!

Safe to say this year has had its ups and downs, but one thing that has always put a smile on my face is seeing orders come in from you lovely people and seeing your wonderfully kind words in reviews. Nothing has ever made me feel more humble, so thank you for everyone who has bought anything from me this year.

I opened my shop at the very end of last year and for the first 6 months made about 4 sales so I am blown away to be sitting on over 100 sales total right now. Turns out everyone loves stickers!

Imagining every sticker/print/pin/t-shirt/painting sitting in someone’s house makes me happy beyond words.

Maybe in 2022 I’ll be better at posting to Instagram… but probably not 😂
