Shorebirds at📍Boulmer

A little throwback to August 2025 here, when we visited rangers Richard and Tara at Space for Shorebirds

They introduced us to these stunning creatures and we captured these images of them in their natural habitat.

We’re still busy working on the film phase of the Dynamic Northumbria project, and we’ll be sharing updates when we can - but until then, we’ll be posting more throwbacks from our 18 months of visits, workshops and creative responses from the ancient Kingdom of Northumbria!

🎞️ Film Fragments Part III 🎞️

This series of posts share the first fragments - words, moods and moments - that are beginning to shape the Dynamic Northumbria film.

In laying out these lines and phrases, we're starting to form connections between locations, stories and artefacts. By doing this, we can generate new images, characters and events which will weave themselves into the fabric of the film.

Stay tuned for more insights into our process!

Hello again 👋 we’re back!

You may have noticed we've taken a little break over the past couple of months - but Dynamic Northumbria is now returning to your feed as we move into a new stage of the project.

Our visits to heritage sites across Northumbria are almost complete, and the film is beginning to take shape, in its earliest, most exploratory form.

Right now, Vic and Marc are deep in the creative process: working with a collaborator, surrounded by notes, words and fragments - finding connections between people, places, and the many creative responses that have emerged along the way.

Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing glimpses from this process, along with images from our archive of site visits and community artworks - the sparks that are inspiring the film to come.

We’re glad to be back and can’t wait to show you what’s next.

Check out these images from our recent visit to Long Meg and Her Daughters ✨

Artists and worked with a group from right here on this historic site in a creative workshop filled with drawing, relief rubbings and even the building of their own stone circle.

All their creative responses will come together as part of our Dynamic Northumbria film, which we've already started work on 🎞️✂️

Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes on the creative process!

🪨 Long Meg and Her Daughters 🪨

What a day! We're looking back at our most recent visit, with the Edington Day Centre earlier this month, along with artists Celia Burbush and Jim Osborne - they helped participants get creative amongst the enchanting stones of Long Meg and Her Daughters 💫

Stay tuned for more on the group's creations ✨

📣 ARTIST CALLOUT 📣

For our next visit, we're looking for artists to join us at Boulmer for a guided beach walk. During the visit, you'll learn about and witness some amazing bird life with the help of Space for Shorebirds

Crucially, there will also be time during the session to generate creative responses to the landscape and birds you will see - and your responses will contribute to our upcoming film!

It's free to take part but you must book your spot in advance. Click here: https://spaceforshorebirds.co.uk/upcoming-events/

🎞️ film fragments 🎞️

If you've been following for a while, you'll know that a major outcome for this project is going to be a film. It'll be made from all the creative responses that have been made and developed throughout the course of the project- weaving stories, voices and landscapes together.

So as the final site visits approach, we thought we'd share some developing fragments that have sprung up as we begin the process of shaping the creative vision for the film.

These fragments are the seeds: images, feelings, notes and thoughts that will help guide how the film is made.

We'll be sharing more of these in the coming weeks!

✨ Upcoming Site Visit ✨

Next month we’re heading to one of the most iconic prehistoric sites in the North — Long Meg and Her Daughters! 🌀

This dramatic stone circle near Penrith is one of the largest in the UK, made up of over 50 stones, with legends and mysteries woven through the landscape in which it sits. Long Meg herself, a tall sandstone pillar, is said to be a witch turned to stone…

We’ll be visiting with a group from the Edington Day Centre, Penrith; we'll be joined by geologist Ian Jackson, who’ll help us delve into the geology and stories of the site, and artist Celia Burbush, who’ll lead the group in creating their own artistic responses.

We’re really looking forward to seeing how this ancient place will spark the group's creativity!

Follow along to find out more about the visit and see what the group creates.
