Halifax Choral Society

Halifax Choral Society We are a group of around 70 singers who come together weekly to enjoy making music. We take our singing seriously but we also have a lot of fun!

We are supported by a talented team of professionals. We sing music from 1600 to the present day. Rehearsals Monday Evening 19.30 - 21.30pm

We can’t wait to hear the glorious sounds of the Halifax Minster Choir in our summer concert! The boy, girl and adult choristers of Halifax Minster will perform a piece celebrating the world of nature in the perfect setting of Halifax Minster with its wonderful acoustic and will join the Halifax Choral Society and guests for the Breath of Life bringing the total number of singers to over 100!

Join us at Halifax Minster on Monday 29 June at 1.00pm for a special lunchtime concert celebrating some of the wonderful young musical talent associated with Halifax Choral Society.

This year's Choral Scholars, Charlotte Town, Scarlett Reilly and Niki Zohdi (pictured left to right), are joined by Anthony Gray, Charlie Murray and Ed Jones in a programme of beautiful choral music inspired by love, life and beauty.

The concert includes the premiere of Debra Page's In Her Own Words – Three Reflections from the Diaries of Anne Lister, alongside music by Matthew Coleridge, Philip Wilby, Anthony Gray, Ed Jones, Philip Moore, Zoltán Kodály and others.

Free admission (retiring collection).

We hope you'll join us for what promises to be a memorable lunchtime of music in the beautiful surroundings of Halifax Minster.

Countdown to Music For an English Summer - Meet the Orchestra!
The Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra is one of the region’s foremost professional ensembles. Founded in 1947 and relaunched in 2021 under the leadership of conductor Ben Crick, the orchestra brings together exceptional freelance musicians from across Yorkshire and the North of England. Dedicated to celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage, it presents orchestral music that is both artistically ambitious and accessible to modern audiences. For this concert the strings and brass will be joined by no fewer than three percussionists, promising a thrilling musical experience! 🎶🎺

The Breath of Life is a new cantata by Classic FM Hall of Fame composer, Matthew Coleridge . Inspired by seeing the world through the eyes of children, with their sense of wonder and amazement, this music has everything - cinematic climaxes, moments of reflection and tunes that you will be humming for days. You will hear stars shining in the sky and waves on the sea, and even a powerful thunderstorm - with lots of percussion!

Today we are celebrating 127 years since the laying of The Victoria Theatre's Foundation Stone

The foundation stone was laid on the 6 May 1899, by Alderman George H Smith J.P, later Sir George Fisher-Smith JP

The event also featured music from the King Cross Band, then one of the leading brass bands in Britain, and The Halifax Choral Society
