The Crown Jewels 💎 👑
22nd - 26th September 2026
Michael Sutton steps into the glittering and chaotic world of Simon Nye’s The Crown Jewels, taking on the challenging dual roles of King Charles II and Talbot Edwards.
The roles were originally played by comedian and actor Al Murray in the play’s 2023 West End production at the Garrick Theatre, where he portrayed both the flamboyant, womanising Charles II and Talbot Edwards, the keeper of the Crown Jewels.
Set against one of the most audacious attempted heists in British history, The Crown Jewels brings the extraordinary story of Colonel Thomas Blood’s 1671 attempt to steal the Crown Jewels to life through Simon Nye’s distinctive comic style. Talbot Edwards was the real-life Keeper of the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London and was famously duped by Blood and his accomplices.
Following in Al Murray’s footsteps, Michael brings his own interpretation to these contrasting characters, adding a fresh energy and personality to a role that requires both comic timing and the ability to switch convincingly between royalty and the ordinary man caught up in an extraordinary moment of history.
Two characters. One actor. One crown jewel of a comedy. 👑
