Funny Firm Comedy Club at The Chester Tavern

Join us for another night of live stand-up comedy at The Chester Tavern, Kidderminster.

This show marks 3 years of Funny Firm comedy nights at the venue. Since our first show in May 2023, we’ve welcomed some fantastic comedians to the stage and built a loyal audience for grassroots comedy in Kidderminster.

Just to let you know, I won’t be at The Chester Tavern tomorrow but I’m leaving you in the safe hands of Dan Smith, the other half of Funny Firm.

I’m gutted as this will be my first night off.

I’m going in for a detached retina operation, so I’ll be out of action for a bit. But I will be back on form with tales of Hong Kong and eye operations.

Have a brilliant time.

You’ll have fun with Dan, and if you’re lucky he’ll burst into song at some point 🙂

“The Chester” Takes Silver in Pub of the Year Awards!

Wyre Forest Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) was pleased to present their Silver Award to the Chester Tavern of Kidderminster on March 30th.

These branch awards represent the views, after secret-shopper style visits, of an active branch of nearly 300 members of the organisation, which is committed to campaigning for beers and pubs.

CAMRA members credited the pub manager, Andy Hipkiss with maintaining a vibrant local pub, with friendly service and a reliable high quality of cask beers. Andy sources both cask and craft beers from local Worcestershire breweries, supporting the county’s long tradition of brewing interesting and tasty beers. The Chester is also a regular popular live music venue.

Andy said “It’s great to have won this award. It’s a credit to the staff and I’d like to thank them and our fantastic customers for their support since we opened in 2022”.

Assistant manager Matt Lamb added: "It's an honour to be nominated again, and last year's Gold award was a surprise. Everyone's still loving the pub, the sense of community in this place is great, everyone who walks in brings something. The pub wouldn't be the pub it is if it wasn't from the hard work from Andy and the staff, and the contributions from the customers."

Local CAMRA Chair, Rob Budworth, said that this award was well deserved. "It's clear that this pub is well loved by its management and patrons, as well as myself. Congratulations for finishing in the Wyre Forest CAMRA Pub of the Year places for the second year in a row."

This was an amazing night, we didn’t have a middle act so I filled it and James Cook extended his set. R S Lewis was amazing.

Big shout out to Jono a boxer who is fighting for charity at Worcester warriors in the 25th of April for the charity Help The Hero’s. Absolute legend.
