Note our new venue, The Empire, Runswick Road, off Carr Lane, Grimsby, DN32 8HL
at 8 pm (doors open 7.30pm) Members - £10 Non Members - £12
Our Autumn season in our new venue opens with the excellent John Ward Trio. John performs in folk clubs, festivals and theatres across the UK and beyond, mainly with his wife, Lynne, and band mate, Les Woodley, as the imaginatively titled John Ward Trio! This line-up delivers powerful 3-part harmonies, with acoustic guitar, bodhran, harmonica, double bass, mandolin, accordion and recorder to bring a fuller sound to John's excellent songs. The Trio also draws on its wider repertoire of traditional and contemporary folk tunes and songs, many of them suited to communal singing.

Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman have long established themselves as one of British folk music's most rewardingly enduring partnerships. The Dartmoor-based husband and wife have twice won the coveted 'Best Duo' title at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, as well as 'Best Duo' at the Folking.com awards and Spiral Earth awards. They consistently deliver assured, distinctive performances whether live or recorded. In three decades of performance they have never been trapped in a groove - always bold and innovative, mixing traditional song arrangements with their self-penned material which reels from the bitter to the sweet, the wry to the sad, the political to the passive.

What a super, varied evening we had last night to end the summer season at Grimsby Folk Club. Arthur Knevett opened the evening with a selection of ballads, followed by our wonderful guests, Patakas. These very talented brothers, Joe and Will Sartin, gave us a mixture of both traditional and original tunes and songs accompanied on guitar, mandolin and fiddle. The second half opened with Ian Skelton and his nephew, Paul Earle and a rendition of Van Morrison's 'Brown Eyed Girl'. Then taking us up to our guests again, we had an excellent set from Ivor Pickard from Louth. A fabulous evening altogether.
The club will now be closed until September 20th when our guests will be the John Ward Trio.

Not to be missed. Tonight is the last night of the summer session and we're finishing with an excellent guest, Patakas. Details below.

Sunday July 12th - Patakas
This is a return visit of the exceptionally talented brothers who went down a storm when they came in 2024. Joe and Will Sartin, performing as ‘Patakas’ (pronounced pa : ta : kus) are a skilful, innovative and assured acoustic duo. With Joe’s sublime voice and guitar playing and Will’s dexterous mandolin, the brothers beautifully and skilfully express the music-making and folk tradition that run through the very core of their family. They bring rhythms and innovative harmony to their fresh interpretations of traditional music and their own original tunes and songs.
8pm start (Doors open 7.30pm) at The Spider's Web, Carr Lane, Grimsby DN32 8LN Members - £10 Non Members - £12
