If you were there for acid house, the superclubs, or any of the 35 summers in between, this one's for you πŸ‘€

Liverpool photographer Mark McNulty has gathered more than 550 photographs into a new book, In Clubland: 35 Summers of Love – four decades of dance culture shot from the inside, from Quadrant Park and Cream to Berlin's Love Parade.

As his publisher Dave Pichilingi puts it: 'This isn't someone writing about club culture from the outside looking in; he lived it.' Out on 5 November, with his work also heading to Tate Britain.

How do you design a logo in two languages without one feeling like the junior partner? πŸ‘€

For Design Doha Biennial 2026, Pentagram's Samar Maakaroun and her team had a clever answer: don't stack Arabic above English; weave them together. Both scripts are drawn with the same thin, even stroke, so they read as one family rather than two.

The extended strokes stretch and connect like lines on a network, which is the whole point: the concept is connection, and so is the ex*****on.

Most studio rebrands turn the founders into the client from hell. Kiss Branding did the opposite πŸ‘€

The Leeds studio's two founders wrote the strategy, handed it to their team, and then stepped back and let them design it, Cupid mascot (nicknamed Roger Bowman), hand-drawn wordmark and all.

A warm little lesson in trusting your team and letting go of control. Full feature on Creative Boom. πŸ‘‡

"We decided to call it a day after 29 years. But Nick and I had such a brilliant time." πŸ‘€

NB Studio – nearly 50 D&AD pencils, work from Speyside distilleries to Buckingham Palace – has closed. Co-founder Alan Dye is remarkably upbeat, and he wants to talk about what design has lost.

"Everything looks very homogeneous at the moment," he says. "Where's the wit and the humour? The lovely quirk of design?" His answer: a bit more joy.

That "cross-stitch" and "pixel art"? Look again – it's all pencil. πŸ‘€

New York artist Danny I***e draws things that pretend to be other things: low-res JPEGs, cross-stitch, pixel art, chains of paperclips. None of it is what it looks like.

He deliberately varies his process so no two pieces feel the same – "It's much more interesting to keep people guessing." These days he's chasing work that's simply, undeniably beautiful.

Four runners. A combined age of 321. And Rankin behind the lens πŸ‘€

Meet Altra's Legacy Team, aged 75 to 85, the unlikely stars of a campaign aimed squarely at runners in their 20s and 30s. The stat behind it: the average British runner quits at 39.

Among them, Peter Giles is the country's fastest octogenarian over 5k, and Pritpal Kaur ran this year's London Marathon at 75 while living with blood cancer. Proof, really, that you don't have to stop.

Hand over your phone, your clothes and your voice for three and a half hours πŸ‘€

That's the deal at KAIHOGYO, the first new Waldorf Project production in seven years, staged in a secret 35,000 sq ft warehouse in north London. Forty people a night, no talking, no latecomers, guided through a labyrinth by dancers.

Artist Sean Rogg says he's spent seven years working out how to reach altered states of consciousness without drugs. He's calling it the most intense immersive art experience in the world.

Here's a career path you don't see very often πŸ‘€

Aki Kanai and Taku Sasaki have spent 17 years as in-house designers at Japanese stationery giant Kokuyo. Rather than leave to go it alone, they've built something in between: splitting their time between in-house work and their own independent commissions, and seeing it as a possible new model for design careers.

They even took on Kokuyo's full rebrand themselves – a bold black wordmark over diagonal blue stripes – and say the thing that keeps them going is simply staying curious.

A $400,000 art-school education, or a free studio in exchange for teaching? πŸ‘€

That's the bet behind Art + Water, Dave Eggers and JD Beltran's new art space on San Francisco's Pier 29. Established artists get free studios if they teach the next wave – no tuition, no gatekeeping.

MacFadden & Thorpe gave it a gloriously bendy, salty identity built on "flow", designed to keep being reshaped by the people using it.

"Even after 25 years here, I don't really know anyone who does the same as I do." πŸ‘€

So Tony Clarkson is fixing that. That Design Thing comes to Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery on 22 October, grown straight out of the Creative Boom IRL meet-ups he's been hosting.

Expect honest talks on the theme "Against All Odds" from LΓ‘nre Adeleye, ZoΓ« Hitchen and Simon Dixon – plus free workshops and an after-party. Tickets are free, but only 50 are available.
