The day job ..!

Touring season’s coming to an end. It’s been extreme and amazing in equal measure..

But I’m hungry to make records. I’ve kept a baseline creative workflow going out here — it’ll be good having the space to focus on just the creativity, without the travel.

September onwards is looking open.

I had a stark realisation the other day..

A friend asked to hear my music. Not the records I’ve made for other people over the last decades — mine. And I realised there’s not much out there in the wild.

What I do have is terabytes of unfinished songs. And finished songs sat unreleased.

This is me starting. Day three and four working on Every Cloud demos , two days at Big City Jacks Studio

Most of producing is coaching people through this process. I’m good at it — because I know what the issues are. I’ve got all of them myself.

Here’s me practising what I preach. Cutting demos over the next few weeks, I’ll keep you updated..

Oktava MK-012 - Another secret weapon from our Mic locker ....
Steve Albini, a legendary music producer known for his work with bands like Nirvana, Pixies, and PJ Harvey, is known to be a big fan of the Oktava MK-012 microphone. In fact, he has praised the mic for its "honest" and "accurate" sound, and has used it to record drums on some of his most iconic albums.

In an interview with Tape Op Magazine, Albini said: "I have a bunch of the Oktava small-diaphragm mics, and they're really honest. They're not hyped in any way. They're accurate and they give you what's there. I've used them for drum overheads and they work really well. They're just really well-made mics."

High praise indeed from a producer who is known for his no-nonsense approach to recording and engineering!
