Getting into the Christmas spirit. Drinks amongst Hogarth at Dennis Severs House, breakfast with godparents at the Ned before notorious annual visit to Hamleys. Creative decorations at home after our two beloved trees had fallen down in the storm. Carol singing with our neighbourhood friends’, and snuggling up to our cat Lala, before heading off to see family in the Netherlands.
Merry Christmas! ✨🎄✨🎄✨🎄

Beautiful inspiring free-flow watercolours by my lovely participants today at neuro-rehab in Charing Cross hospital. Often I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to connect with people through creativity and art. The most rewarding is when people who are sick get up anyway to join, and they go away after the session feeling lifted through simple act of opening up, letting go and enjoying the moment.

Grateful to have been invited to talk about my work at the exhibition ‘Small Wonders’ today together with other London Group exhibitors. It was an interesting and inspiring dialogue about different practices, contexts, journeys involving histories of our work and the stories behind them and connecting them. The conversation started of with talking about the idea of ‘small’ and what roll small takes into one’s practice. From shadows holding memory to sound pollution, from diagrammatic form to climate change, to emotional intelligence. Thank you for such an inspiring afternoon with incredible artists and their work.

Last night I cycled to Bermondsey to see exhibition ‘Stillness in Movement’.

Artists had been invited to connect with the title as theme for the show. For me, the idea of stillness in movement, or movement in stillness, resonated with a time when I felt stuck and nothing seemed to ever change. Over what seemed like a lifetime, I was encouraged, in therapy to keep taking little steps. That one by one, one day, the little steps, the little actions, would bring about change. Like going for a walk, where the landscape would slowly change your view. It was so gradual, unnoticeable for a long time, but one day the landscape had indeed changed and I found myself in a different place wondering how that had happened. Movement was possible when the mind had become still.

This painting with its blue hues and bold masking on a moonlit night revealed a new space to me after I reworked it. It has had many lives and holds memories of different times. It communicated a shift, which I recognised when the I was ready. 🌱

The changing landscape of the mind…
