One of our GYG Future starts - Introducing Viv - a student at Italia Conti & recently blessed the stage in the West End.
Viv had some beautiful words to say about GYG..
"I remember auditioning for GYG in year 7, still new to my secondary school and all I knew was how much I loved to sing.
The day I got into GYG I remember my name being written on the whiteboard right in the middle of the canteen. I felt so proud to be recognised, GYG saw something in ME!
That day everyone was coming up to me congratulating me, it made me feel so specialβ€οΈ
From the first Wednesday rehearsal at the Grand, my Wednesdays became unavailable for the foreseeable future, because as soon as I walked into that building I found a community, a FAMILY.
Every week, my favourite day was a Wednesday after school because I could go and do what I loved the most with the people who inspired me and believed in me.
I got so many opportunities to perform, and spent so much time working with the most incredible singing teachers, that I found my voice and my confidence in ways I could never have imagined.
Soon, it wasnβt just my singing voice that was being heard, but my voice as a YOUNG person. I was empowered to speak about my political views with incredible people, who LISTENED.
My voice had power at GYG and it gave me the confidence to take that into my day to day life now. Truly, GYG nurtured my passion into what I am so fortunate to do in my everyday life now at Italia Conti.
Without GYG, I genuinely would not be the performer and individual that I am today, and my GYG family are still such a massive part of my life and always will be FOREVER. I love them all with all my heart and would not be able to imagine my life without GYG in it. I will forever be grateful to have seen my name on that white board, and to have been a part of the most special community β€οΈ"
