NELL GWYNN AUDITIONS - STARTING TONIGHT!

Here are details of all the characters featured in the show - spot anything that takes your fancy?

Auditions are on 9, 14 and 16 July. All starting at 7.30pm at our rehearsal space to the rear of 85 Westgate.

All are welcome - fresh-faced or seasoned performers, existing members and newcomers. As a play with music, we're also keen to hear from singers, musicians or actor-musicians. Be assured though, it's a play with music, not a musical, so we're looking for people who can convey story with confidence rather than the world's best singers. There are opportunities for ensemble song and dance moments, but only Nell and Charles Hart have solos.

Show dates are 11 to 14 November 2026

OPEN DAY AND COFFEE MORNING - THIS SATURDAY
Saturday 4 July, 11am to 1pm

Interested in joining, being part of our next show, or making new friends? Come along to our open event for a friendly chat.

Acting, organising, using/learning craft skills, building/DIY skills, marketing/social media, costumes, set painting...

Unusually for us, this time we're doing a play with music, so we're looking for musicians/singers/actor-musicians too.

Whether you fancy being onstage or backstage, or generally just helping out, you'd be welcome. 18+.

Coffee and cake £2. Find us at the rear of 85 Westgate (formerly Petticoats Tea Room, door to the right), Grantham.

We're excited to share details of our next production - Nell Gwynn by Jessica Swale!

Auditions for this fun and b***y romp through Restoration theatreland start on Tuesday 7 July with an informal read-through.

Friendly auditions will then follow on 9, 14 and 16 July. All starting at 7.30pm at our rehearsal space to the rear of 85 Westgate.

What a great day out in Retford for the NODA East Midlands Awards (Districts 1 to 5). We came away with two award wins, for the entire ensemble of Calendar Girls and the programme for And Then There Were None! 🎉

In presenting the Calendar Girls award, NODA rep for our district, Kei Bailey, praised the entire ensemble for "working together with trust, generosity and genuine connection...creating believable friendships, supporting one another in every scene, and bringing warmth, humour and emotions to the stage as a unified company"

"The award also recognises the work of directors Mark Brown and Sophie Read, who clearly fostered that spirit of collaboration and chemistry...Their thoughtful direction brought the cast together as a cohesive ensemble, allowing every performer to shine while always serving the story as a whole."

"Congratulations to a company that demonstrated the very best of ensemble theatre." Wow! Thank you, Kei, for the award and for these wonderful words!

Helen Pack was nominated for Best Director for And Then There Were None, but was sadly beaten to the post.

Set and costumes looking brilliant, actors ready and raring - it must be dress rehearsal! And that means it's opening night tomorrow.

Time to get excited/nervous, depending which side of the curtain you sit 🎭

And last, but very much not least, is our very own Jeeves, played by Bob Bayman. Another newcomer to GDS, Bob has slotted perfectly into place, reviving a former hobby on the stage and making great friends in the Society.

Does Jeeves need an introduction? Just in case you're not familiar, Jeeves is the indispensable gentleman's gentleman. A valet par excellence. He not only keeps his charges tidy, well-dressed and organised, he offers sage advice and a great skill with schemes. In the midst of a crisis? Jeeves knows what to do.
