So excited to share that we have our script for our next and biggest Screen School short film to date…
INTO THE WINTER WOODS

This is my first big foray into writing for screen, after dipping my toe in with smaller projects over the last couple of years and falling in love with the whole process of learning how film storytelling works.

I’ve finally written the script after working on ideas it for the past few months including with the genius idea of our Screen students themselves and I’ll be directing, with the much needed support of an absolutely brilliant team, particularly Sophie Ella Reilly, our cinematographer who is the expert I need for bringing it to life and our amazing Screen School cast and crew.

We’re getting ready to bring a dark, atmospheric reimagining of a classic fairytale to life with a fair few twists. Red Riding Hood is a story I’ve always wanted to explore. I’ve imagined it on stage for years… but surprise! it’s going to the screen, and this medium works even better for the kind of twist and tone we're aiming for.

Cannot wait to get started!🌲🧺🔦🎬

⚠️ Urgent Update: This is the news we had hoped to avoid.

In January 2025, our application for continued multi-year funding from Creative Scotland was unsuccessful. Since then, under new leadership, we have developed a sustainable plan that puts the community at its heart and ensures that youth and community projects can thrive alongside a programme of touring theatre and music.

Despite months of constructive talks, Creative Scotland has confirmed that transition funding will not be extended into 2026.

Next year marks Cumbernauld’s 70th anniversary as a New Town. We want to be at the heart of those celebrations with a full programme rooted in creativity, community and connection. Without urgent support, the 70th year of this town could instead see the closure of this cultural asset for good.

Congratulations and well done to all those companies and organisations who will be receiving multi-year funding from Creative Scotland.

Nice to see many new names announcing they are now in the portfolio but also very saddened to see those not receiving funding too.

It's such a difficult time as it is and these can't be easy decisions but doesn't make it less shocking and possibly feeling disastrous for those needing it.

Let's keep supporting our fantastic cultural life and bodies as much as we can and never take venues and artists for granted.
