Recent restoration/ rescaling work.

Not posted in a little while but these are a couple of very recent projects.

1. Gold dollar 66 that the customer wanted to see the potential of. Geometry was amended to change the bevel angle from the usual 19.5/20 degrees they come from the factory with to 17 degrees, all surfaces refinished and polished to mirror but the logo left to see what it was originally. Rescaled in teak with CA finish and brass pins.

2. Filarmonica cleaned and polished with the diy unknown (and painted) wood scales replaced with rioja pearl kirinite.

New restoration up for grabs. This is a fine example of a 6/8 full hollow Ator from ERN. I did try to save the original scales but they were warping like a Christmas fortune telling cracker fish. Replaced the scales with a sharp ivory acrylic with teal pearl kirinite wedge and bullseye pins. Hollows have been lightly reground to remove some deeper factory lines and now near mirror polish. Very fine edge so a real singer for those that like the audible feedback.

№65 is complete.

This is a brother of №64 with the same blade but with a different concept. This one has taken form using the concept of rustic. Blade has 60 grit hollows and a finish intended to l give the appearance of vintage iron. Scales are black dyed quilted maple with a CA finish and buffalo horn wedge. Brass pins with a centre stainless steel centre washer added to the stack.

Blade itself is a 1/4 hollow 8/8 French point with notch. Texture on the spine gives great grip and control and weight balance is perfect.

Either #64 or #65 will be available but only the one.

Could be the last blade I make in a good while but really enjoyed making this pair.

Progress of a James Barber restoration. This blade was in horrible condition with lots of hone wear and heavy pitting.

Came with some other razors and was initially going to toss it in the bin. Never given a regrind a go so this was a great opportunity. Let's say it came out well! Very time consuming so not something I will be doing often but pretty awesome to bring something back from the grave. Was a heavy wedge, now closer to a quarter hollow but still classed as a wedge in my opinion.

After being away from razor making for over a year, this is one of 2 rare creations.

This is an 8/8 quarter hollowed notched French toe. Rough but polished spine complimented with clean lines for the rest.

Scales are skateboard ply, CA finished with stacked stainless pins.

Blade is roughly from 1925 as it is with original box (not the best of conditions). 5/8 full hollow rescaled in bronze kirinite and stacked brass pins for a modern take on a classic look. The slightest of age marks but gosh this is in fantastic rare condition.

Available to a new owner for £110 delivered in the UK but will post international.

Honed to a Japanese natural shoubudani finish, ready for the next 100 years.

#64 preview

First razor I have made since January last year so this one is very special to me. Not a commission so designed to my own tastes and not sure if I want to let this one go. Razor is an 8/8 quarter hollow primal design with notched French toe, scales are made from skateboard ply and CA finished with stainless stacked pins. Photos to follow

The process of making a new set of skate deck ply scales.

For the most recent 8/8 that may be for my personal collection, I've wanted to make another set of these.

Deck chopped, glued, chopped again then shaped, drilled and CA finished. A once well used skateboard is now pristine and will live on for many years.

Just the signature to etch on the blade and then time for assembly

3 restorations up for grabs.

First is a 6/8 half hollow William Morton and Sons dressed in frosted glass acrylic scales, stainless pins and brass washers. Modern vintage, £60 SOLD

Second is a beautiful example of British steel. 11/16 Joseph Rogers wedge dressed in tortoiseshell kirinite scales, brass pins and washers. £80 SOLD

6/8 full hollow Kropp in a set of black acrylic donor scales that are more fitting for the quality of the blade. Excellent starter razor, £40

Some recent ebay honing feedback.

I am always grateful for feedback from customers but examples like this make it all worth while. 100% positive feedback since 2012 must mean I'm doing something right.

You can send razors to me for honing through the ebay page or contact me direct to take advantage of every 4th razor honed free.

Service fee is £10 per razor plus the same for delivery as what you pay to send (using same method for return). Via ebay, postage will always be 1st class signed for as default.
