Choir practice was interrupted by a big celestial event! We had a lot of fun watching the eclipse in the playing field next to St John’s Church, Milford!

🎶 Our organ is broken, but music at St John's Milford is flourishing 🎶
After serving St John’s, Milford, for many years, our pipe organ has reached the end of its life. It broke down at the beginning of last year’s Nine Lessons and Carols and has continued to fail despite several attempts to repair it.
We are now raising money to provide a dependable new organ and support the future of music at St John’s.

Led by our new choir director, professional actor and musician Alice Gold, 29, our growing choir is learning complex harmonies and professional singing techniques. Together with our new organist, Chris Walton, 27, and new Treasurer and Musical Co-ordinator Ruari Metcalfe, 35, we are working to make traditional church music accessible to every generation.
Congregation attendance has nearly doubled and continues to grow. Our wider plans include organ and choral scholarships, a junior choir and a dementia-friendly choir, establishing St John’s as a music hub where people of all ages can discover and develop their talents.
Every donation and share will help give St John’s a new musical voice.

Our choir is completely free-to-join and is run by professional musicians, providing high-standard but friendly and fun choral and singing training.
We sing a wide variety of music.
We rehearse every Wednesday 18:30 - 20:30 in the church.
At present, the choir sings at one Sunday morning service per month, with plans to create other opportunities already in motion.
This is the opportunity to be part of something brand new as it grows, join a very friendly group, as well as learning music theory, vocal technique, and developing your own singing voice.
ALL are welcome, no matter of age, experience or background! You do not have to be a church goer to join. All we ask is for enthusiasm!

Meet our Director of Music, Alice Gold!

Alice’s approach is the choir’s unique offering. She not only teaches the repertoire to a high standard, but also coaches the choir on singing technique and ensures everybody evolves as an individual and together.

Alice is an actor, singer, and writer. She holds an MFA(Hons) in Musical Theatre from the Guildford School of Acting, and an MA(Hons) with Dean’s List Honours from the University of St Andrews.

Whilst at St Andrews, she held the Struther Arnott choral scholarship at Holy Trinity Church, where she sang under the baton of Walter Blair MBE and Thomas Duncan. Her award-winning choral experience spans nearly 20 years, when she first sang as a child, and has seen her sing at several major cathedrals as a soloist and chorister.

She is thrilled church music is still an integral part of her life, and believes in the value of choirs as a place of personal growth and great fun.

Selected singing credits include: Soprano Soloist, Brahms’ Requiem; Alto Soloist, Vivaldi’s ‘Gloria’; Soloist, ‘Grads Sing Sondheim at the Other Palace’, and Juno, ‘Semele’.

Selected other performance credits: Helena, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ (UK tour); Sister Faust, ‘The Pact’ (woodhouse&roderick); Laura Al-Shatawani, ‘World’s Most Evil Killers’ (Sky TV), and Amy Shaw in the award-winning ‘Miss Walker’.
