Glynde Place has a complex family history which passed from The Waleys, to The Morley's, to The Trevors and eventually to The Brands.

How did the Brands inherit from The Trevors?

In 1743 John Trevor the 5th died leaving the house to his cousin Bishop Richard Trevor. When the Bishop died his brother Robert inherits followed by his two sons who die heirless. John Trevor the 5th had 9 sisters and when Robert and his sons pass, the Grandson (General Otway Brand) of one sister inherits bringing the Brand name to Glynde which continues today.

Find out more about the family history, the extensive art and memorabilia collection and local artists work in the house from Peggy Angus.

The house is only for a few more days in June and then again at the end of August.
Why not join us for a house tour and bring a picnic and enjoy the views of the surrounding countryside.

House Tours: 1.30pm & 3pm on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in June and the Sunday and Monday of the August bank holiday.
No need to book, turn up on the day, 30 minutes before the tour begins.

Did you know....

In the 18th Century in Glynde, with Bishop Richard Trevor in residence, there was a small brewhouse at Glynde Place. If you were a local who had laboured up the hill to Glynde Place you could call into the Brewhouse for a FREE mug of beer 🍻(sorry no beer here now). Thus earning the Bishop the nickname of ‘Good for Nothing’ as praise, in stark difference to the modern meaning of the phrase.

With the weather looking to be very hot this Sunday, why not cool off and take a tour of Glynde Place , find out more about Bishop Richard Trevor, many more Trevors and the extensive family history dating back 500 years and why not finish off your visit to Glynde with a light refreshment and food at The Trevor Arms! (Serving cold beer!)

House tour times: 1.30pm and 3.00pm Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in June, Sunday and Monday of the August bank holiday.
No need to pre-book, come along 30mins before tour time to get your ticket.
