A few weeks ago Owain (your regular Glossop Cinema Club host) had a short film he made in the Top 25 of the worldwide filmmaking challenge Straight 8 2026.

His Glossop-made short 'The Quest' had its world premiere at the BFI IMAX in London Waterloo, and today (Sunday 14th June) it has its Glossop premiere at The Globe Glossop from 2pm.

The film was shot on Super 8, and the challenge's rules mean the whole film was edited "in camera", so no second takes, no post production, no special effects other than those you can do in the moment, and the music added without anyone seeing the film!

So join us, and some of the cast and crew, for this little pop-up of a micro epic (it's only 3 minutes long, so we made play it a few times), upstairs at The Globe from 2pm.

This Saturday at Glossop Market Hall we're putting on a FREE showing of Disney Pixar's 2026 blockbuster 'Hoppers'.

Really looking forward to kicking off the weekend with a fun filled screening of this family favourite.

Doors to the event open at 9am, and the film will start at 9:30am.

And, best of all, it's completely FREE! No need to book, just show up this Saturday 13th June at Glossop Market Hall.

This Saturday we're kicking off a new endeavour, collaborating with Glossop Market Hall to show Saturday morning movies starting with Disney Pixar's Hoppers (2026) at 9:30am on Saturday June 13th, and, did we mention it's FREE!!!

A free family cinema morning at Glossop Market Hall 🎬

Join us on Saturday 13th June for a free screening of Disney Pixar's Hoppers on our giant 5 metre screen. Doors open at 9am, with the film starting at 9:30am.

The kids can settle in and enjoy the film whilst you grab a coffee, some breakfast and a chance to put your feet up for a bit.

August's film is a very unique and special event - a community-made film by the people of Edale, featuring a Q&A from the filmmakers!

In the fictional, sleepy village of Stone, where ‘change’ and the modern world are alien concepts to its residents, the daily village goings-on are derailed by an existential threat that will require the community to pull together and risk it all if it wants to survive. With local jobs drying up, fewer and fewer children in the school and even newcomers to contend with, can Jack and his unlikely crew pull something off to keep the soul of the village alive and stop Stone becoming a holiday-let ghost town?

In the very real village of Edale, a similarly unlikely group of residents came together to create a feature length fiction film. Stone of Stone, written by Mark Wallington and directed by Alec Boyd is the result of four years of community effort from nearly 100 non-professionals in the world of filmmaking.

Having premiered to the village in the spring, as featured on BBC breakfast, Stone of Stone is about to embark on its first screening tour, coming to Glossop Cinema Club on 23rd August with a discussion and Q&A.

We've also announced our July film, the cult dark comedy 'The Cable Guy' (1996) which star Jim Carrey was infamously paid $20 million to headline.

From director Ben Stiller - before he blew up as a Hollywood star himself - and co-written by Judd Apatow - who went on to helm The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up - this film is a time capsule of the mid-90s and Carrey at the peak of his powers, but with the new generation of comedians waiting in the wings to take over.

Spot early roles for Jack Black (The Minecraft Movie) and Owen Wilson (The Royal Tenenbaums) as well as cameos from Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), David Cross (Arrested Development), Janeane Garofolo (Mystery Men), and Kyle Gass (Tenacious D).

Plus a real mid-90s grunge soundtrack, and a plethora of pop culture nods, this somewhat prescient comedy is an anarchic successor to the likes of Martin Scorsese's The King Of Comedy and has earned a deserved cult following since its somewhat muted response on release in the Summer of 96.

Alongside the film there'll be the usual intro, prizes, short films, and more. All upstairs at The Globe Glossop on Sunday 12th July from 5pm.
