Rhona's Musical Steps

Rhona's Musical Steps Educational and inspiring music classes for babies and toddlers from 4 months to 3 years.

.After teaching in Primary Schools for 20 years I knew how important music is to the development of children and so I started teaching these classes Adults and children enjoy the classes and it's a great opportunity for them both to spend time together having fun while also developing their child's co-operation, listening and communication skills. Toddler classes, which are from 18 months to 3 ye

I hope you are all doing ok and I am sure you are looking forward to when you can get back to doing activities with other children and parents again. Sadly if I had kept Musical Steps going, we still would not have been back to proper classes yet and that's nearly a year on from when we had to stop. I do miss seeing everyone and not having music as such a big part of my life but as you can imagine I am doing lots of music and singing with my granddaughter :-)
I thought I would let you know about my new business called Positive Family Connections. I trained more than 2 years ago to become a Mindful Monkeys® Better Together practitioner and I now help parents to support their children when they are struggling with issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem, anger or dealing with a big change in their lives. I would be very grateful if you could have a look at my Positive Family Connections page and like it and if you could share it with your family and friends so that more people can find me if they need my support. Thanks :-)

As it looks likes it will possibly be mid September before children's classes can start up again and after much consideration, I have decided not to continue with my classes after the Summer. As you can imagine it has been a very difficult decision to make but after becoming a grandparent just before lockdown and with having a few health issues recently, I have decided that it is the right time for me to stop. Cathy, who set up Musical Steps, retired in April and although she was happy for me to continue on my own, there will no longer be a website or any other support and so it will be much harder for people to find my classes. I think because I haven't seen any of you for so long, it makes it slightly easier for me though I am so sorry for those of you who were looking forward to coming back to classes next term. Thank you all for your support over these last 11 years and I can't begin to imagine the number of children I have taught in that time. It has been an amazing journey and I have enjoyed every minute. I have felt very privileged to have helped so many children find enjoyment and fun in music and singing and I know most of those children are still singing and many have gone on to playing musical instruments. Have a lovely rest of the summer, all the best to those who are going to nursery soon and keep singing :-)

Thanks to all those who joined in with my online classes this term. I know it has been very different for you, your children and for me not being able to see anyone else who was joining in but I am glad that we could still sing, make music and have fun together during this uncertain time.
Have a good Summer holiday and will be in touch :-)

Thanks x

For those of you that find having children at home all the time is tough, you are not alone and this article says that actually it's good to admit it and that many parents feel the same. No-one needs to try and be the perfect parent.

I reckon that by this point in the coronavirus lockdown, many parents are starting to find their children’s company tiresome. What can you do the next time dislike looms?

Hope everyone is staying well and safe. I hope too that even if you can't join me this term that you are still singing and listening to music. Always a great way to relieve stress and bring some fun into the day. Please feel free to share what songs or music you are enjoying at home just now.

Looking forward to my first toddler class back tomorrow at 9.45am. There is still time to join before the first class and even once the term has started, you can still join. We are using a balloon in the Sound Sack but if you don't have a balloon, a ball would be fine. We are playing jingle bells & doing the musical dip so any instruments you have or have made would be great or you can just clap along. Finally we are using animals puppets so any soft toy animal would do or if you want to make a puppet, I have added some craft sheets to the files section of Musical Steps Online. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and see you tomorrow 🙂

I am going to add some colouring sheets to the files on my Musical Steps Online group which you can download and print out. The balloon one is for next week's class.
