Seven weeks until GAMA brings SHREK THE MUSICAL to Rothes Halls!

This week, rehearsals continue as scenes, songs and choreography start coming together. The cast are getting more comfortable in their characters and the show is beginning to take shape!

Meanwhile, there’s plenty happening behind the scenes too, as preparations continue for costumes, props, scenery and everything needed to create the world of Far Far Away.

🪄💚 SHREK DID YOU KNOW? — FAIRY GODMOTHER EDITION! 💚🪄

You might think being a Fairy Godmother means waving a wand, granting wishes and generally making everyone’s fairytale dreams come true… Well, not in Far Far Away!

In Shrek the Musical, Fairy Godmother is one of the many fairytale creatures who gets banished from Duloc by Lord Farquaad — and she joins the other creatures in telling the very unfortunate “Story of My Life.” 📖✨

She also gets her moment in “Freak Flag”, proving that being a little bit different isn’t something to hide - it’s something to celebrate! 🪄🏳️‍🌈

And here’s another little bit of Shrek trivia…

The Fairy Godmother in the musical is not the same character as the Fairy Godmother from Shrek 2 - although her appearance is clearly inspired by the famous animated character. 👀

So, while our Fairy Godmother may not be busy singing “Holding Out for a Hero” from the top of a grand piano like her Shrek 2 counterpart… she’s still got plenty of magic, attitude and fairytale drama of her own! 😂🪄

💚 DID YOU KNOW?
Shrek almost sounded VERY different!

Before Mike Myers became the voice of our favourite Scottish ogre, the role was originally recorded by comedian Chris Farley. After Farley’s death, Myers took over and recorded the entire role again.

So technically… there was once another Shrek lurking in the swamp! 🐸

We, on the other hand, are overjoyed with the Shrek we got. 💚

8 WEEKS TO GO! 💚🧅

The countdown to GAMA’s SHREK THE MUSICAL continues, and we’re now just eight weeks away from opening night!

Rehearsals are well underway, with the cast learning songs, choreography and scenes and getting to know the wonderful characters of Far Far Away.

There’s still plenty to do, but every rehearsal brings us one step closer to bringing this hilarious and heart-warming story to the stage.

We’re bringing SHREK 1 to the big screen for a very special GAMA Drive-In Movie Night! 💚🎬

Think cosy movie night, fairytale chaos, hotdogs, snacks, raffles, tombola and just a little bit of ogre magic. 🏰🐉✨
