Community asset for the people 🔥
Could the Govan Lyceum become a community arts, media, performance and learning hub??
Sunny Govan Community Radio would love to see the Lyceum brought back into meaningful community use — as a space for local creativity, culture, learning and opportunity. A National arts treasure based here in Govan
Our early vision is for the building to become a community-led hub supporting things like:
* live music and performances
* dance studios and rehearsal space
* radio, video and podcasting studios
* music production and recording
* creative workshops
* youth training and skills development
* local heritage and storytelling
* arts, theatre, performance and exhibitions
* space for community groups, artists and local people
We are at the very early stages of exploring this idea. We know there will be big questions around the building, ownership, funding, heritage, feasibility and long-term sustainability.
But we believe local people should be part of the conversation about the future of one of Govan’s important buildings.
Sunny G is now beginning to speak with people who understand heritage, community ownership, funding and building redevelopment to find out what may be possible.
We’d love to hear from the community:
What would you like to see the Lyceum become?
What arts, media, learning or community activities would you want to see there?
Drop your ideas in the comments or get in touch with Sunny Govan.
Let’s imagine a future for the Lyceum that is rooted in Govan, led by the community, and built around creativity, live performance, media, learning and opportunity.
