YDance, Scotland’s national youth dance organisation, aims to offer every child and young person in Scotland the opportunity to realise their potential as individuals through dance. We work through key partnerships in education, culture, health and sport, to provide a range of high quality dance experiences across three main areas of work:

CashBack for Communities uses money recovered from the proceeds of crime to fund projects for young people.

Minister for Victims and Community Safety Kirsten Oswald visited Scottish Sports Future to hear about their work with young people.

The CashBack funding supports the delivery of sport and youth work programmes for young people who may be at risk of exclusion, isolation, antisocial behaviour or involvement in crime.

Over the next three years, we are providing £26 million in funding for the CashBack for Communities Programme.

Horizons Glasgow took to the stage at Gathered Together on Friday night!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support us, it was so special to share the evening with you.

If you’re new to Horizons, here’s a little bit about us…

Established in 2015 through the Let’s Dance European Exchange project, Horizons brings young people together through dance, with a simple goal: making dance accessible to everyone, regardless of background or ability.

Horizons Glasgow meets monthly, led by YDance artists Beth and Zac, creating space to develop movement skills, creativity and confidence, while building friendships and having fun along the way.

At the heart of Horizons is inclusion. Our team is trained in inclusive dance practice, creating welcoming and engaging workshops where young people with disabilities can explore movement, express themselves and be creative.

And what a brilliant way to celebrate Scottish Learning Disability Week 2026 () and this year’s message:

“I am here… to be seen.” 🧡

This week, we’re proud to support Scottish Learning Disability Week 2026 🧡

Taking place from 7–13 September, this year’s theme is “I am here… to be seen.”

Being seen means more than being visible. It means being listened to, included, respected and valued, having your choices recognised, your voice heard and the right support in place to fully participate in your community.

At YDance, we see the power of dance to create spaces where young people with learning disabilities can express themselves, build confidence, gain employment, connect with others and be seen for who they are.

Throughout the week, people with learning disabilities and organisations across Scotland will be sharing experiences, starting conversations and challenging the barriers that prevent people with learning disabilities from participating equally in society.
Because being seen means being heard, included and valued.

Introducing NYDCS Foundations 2026/27!

The National Youth Dance Company of Scotland (NYDCS) Foundations Programme is back for 2026/27, supporting talented and ambitious young dancers as they take their next steps towards a future in dance.

Designed for dancers who may have limited access to high-quality contemporary dance opportunities locally, Foundations offers a chance to:

⭐️ Develop contemporary dance technique
⭐️ Explore creativity and choreography
⭐️ Perform new work at high-profile events in Scotland
⭐️ Learn more about training and careers in dance
⭐️ Connect with professional dancers and NYDCS alumni
⭐️ Create and perform new work at a high-profile event in Scotland

The programme will take place across Aberdeen, Dundee and Renfrewshire, with sessions running throughout January–July 2027, including intensive blocks during the Easter and summer holidays.

Whether you’re thinking about a future career in dance or simply want to challenge yourself, Foundations is a place to grow, create and take your dancing further.

📢The Dancers Connected survey has reopened from today until Fridy 11th September, and we particularly want to hear from final-year dance students and recent graduates.

We’re building a clearer picture of what it is really like to begin and sustain a professional dance career in Scotland.

We’ve had a fantastic response to the survey so far, but we want to hear from more dancers who are right at the beginning of that journey: those in the final year of their professional training, and dancers who have graduated in the last few years.

Your experiences will help us understand how the sector can support the transition from education to employment more clearly and will directly inform the development of Dancers Connected – our work to explore new approaches to training, employment and career sustainability for freelance dancers in Scotland.

If you’re a final-year dance student or recent graduate, we’d really like to hear from you.

And if you teach, train or work with dancers at this stage of their careers, please help us by sharing the survey with them.

LOUDER TOGETHER in Antwerp 🇧🇪

This August, our Artistic Director Anna joined artists, educators, performers, cultural leaders and changemakers from more than 35 countries at ITAC8 in Antwerp.

At the heart of the gathering was the power of global connection and international partnership, sharing ideas, practice and perspectives from across the world.

It was also an opportunity to reflect on the quality and integrity of our role as teaching artists, and the ways we can use dance as a tool for social change.

We’re excited to bring these conversations, connections and new perspectives back to YDance and our work with young people across Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
