Some photos from our opening to tell you to catch to catch in the guise of the commonplace before it closes in 2 days!

The exhibition brings together new moving-image works by Glasgow-based artist Hannan Jones and Mira Adoumier and Carine Doumit of the Beirut-formed collective The Camelia Committee. Developed in tandem over the last year through conversation and exchange, the exhibition reflects the resonances between their practices.

Moving between Glasgow, Marseille, Beirut and other unsettled landscapes, and working at geographical, temporal and psychic edges, the artists attend to low-level signals — murmurs, vibrations and traces — through which histories leak and circulate.

As part of the exhibition, the Market Gallery Committee have collaboratively written a text in conversation with the artists’ research, rushes, scripts, images, fragments and works in progress. The publication will be presented alongside the works in the space, and copies will be available to take away in exchange for a donation (of any amount) towards The Sameer Project.

The exhibition runs as part of Glasgow International until this Sunday 21st June, open daily 11am-6pm.

The space is wheelchair accessible and has an accessible gender-neutral toilet.

in the guise of the commonplace brings together new moving-image works by Glasgow-based artist Hannan Jones and Mira Adoumier and Carine Doumit of the Beirut-formed collective The Camelia Committee.

Hannan Jones traces colonial afterlives through migration, approaching the city as a site of sonic and spatial echoes. The Camelia Committee turn toward prophecy and the collapse of futurity, treating the oracle as an apparatus of listening rather than authority.

As part of the exhibition, the Market Gallery Committee — Emmy Yoneda, Marguerite Carson, Mina Heydari-Waite and Myles Westman — have collaboratively written a text in conversation with the artists’ research, rushes, scripts, images, fragments and works in progress. The publication will be presented alongside the works in the space, and copies will be available to take away in exchange for a donation (of any amount) towards The Sameer Project.

The opening will take place in our space at 13 Ross Street, Glasgow, G1 5AR. The exhibition will then continue to be open to the public between the 5th-21st June, 11am-6pm.

The space is wheelchair accessible and has an accessible gender-neutral toilet. We have travel and childcare bursaries available, please get in touch on [email protected] to request them.

We hope to see you there!

Warmly,

Join us at Market Gallery on Saturday 9th May from 1pm - 5pm for An aberrant biblio-chreche! - a public event inviting visitors to share in Rosie Roberts’ Home Residency research.

The Market space will become a library of aberrance—a state or condition that differs from the normal, or expected standard. Developed through Rosie’s research on mad artists, writers and parents, the event looks into the ways in which parenting as a verb intersects with artistic production, writing and madness.

The biblio-creche will launch a new publication by Rosie Roberts, Jamie Bolland, Iphgenia Baal and Aimee Ballinger, introduced by Mattie Roberts. Alongside this, visitors will be able to watch Cathy Sisler’s ‘Aberrant Motion 1’ video work from the early 90s, and browse a selection of books from Rosie’s collaborative research processes. There will be readings, which people big and small are welcome to interrupt.

There will also be a photocopier, a set of liberation themed colouring-in sheets produced from the research for kids, comfortable seating and space for babies to roll around.

Refreshments and food will be provided!

The space will also be open on Sunday 10th May from 11am - 4pm on a drop-in basis.

This event will take place at Market Gallery (13 Ross St G1 5AR) which is wheelchair accessible and has an accessible gender-neutral toilet. We have travel and childcare bursaries available, please get in touch at [email protected] to request them.

In Aberrant Motion #1, Cathy Sisler makes her first appearance as the Spinning Woman, who explores movement as a strategy to destabilise normalcy. This low-resolution analogue video is the first of 4 performance-based videos (created between 1993 and 1994) in which she plays with the notion of the ‘aberrant’: deviation from expected patterns or non-conformity to usual standards.

This work will play on a loop in the Market Gallery space across Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd May.

SOLO SHOW OPEN CALL 2026
Deadline 11:59pm on 3rd of May 2026

Market Gallery is excited to share our 2026 Solo Show open call; an annual opportunity for a Glasgow based artist to develop and present a significant new project.

We are particularly interested in proposals that build on a body of work in development - projects that would benefit from focused time and support to become fully realised for presentation.

The form of the exhibition is flexible; however, for this year, we are specifically looking for work that does not utilise moving image, in order to maintain balance across our wider programme.

The exhibition will open in late October, running for four weeks, and will include an additional public-facing event (for example, a reading, screening, artist talk, performance) that complements, activates, expands or contextualises the show.

We strongly encourage applications from people who are LGBTQIA+, global majority, living with disabilities, and from working class or low socio-economic backgrounds.

1:1 Advice Sessions | Online

We’re excited to announce that we - the Market Gallery Committee - will be offering 1:1 advice sessions from April 2026 onwards!

At the beginning of each month we will release a limited number of slots that will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis. These 45-minute sessions are open to Glasgow-based artists and will take place on zoom.

Whether you’re working on an open call or funding application, exploring a new idea or wish to chat about your practice more broadly - it’s really important to us that the mentoring session be used in a way that feels right for you!

If you have a specific committee member you would like to speak to, you can select their name from the list in the booking form and we will do our best to accommodate. Otherwise, you will be paired at random depending on availability.

We are keen to offer the sessions to as many people as possible so if you have had a mentoring session recently with one of the committee members, we ask that you hold off booking another session for 6 months. This break between sessions allows us to speak to as many of you as possible.

🔗 Please go to our linktree or website to access the booking form for April’s advice sessions.

We’re looking forward to having a chat

🕯️Programme Administrator Call Out 🕯️

We are looking for someone to take on our Programme Administrator role!

Market Gallery has employed a Programme Administrator since 2022, which has proved a hugely supportive and crucial role within the organisation.

Whilst the programming committee work collaboratively to produce a yearly artistic programme, the Programme Administrator supports the administration, operations, communications and financial management of Market Gallery. We are looking for someone who can continue this facilitation with skill and enthusiasm, contributing to the long-term development and stability of the space.

Market is at an exciting time of activity and growth, having been awarded multi-year funding from Creative Scotland and entering its second year of this fund. You will be working closely with the committee and board to deliver Market’s unique programme in a non-hierarchical environment, as well as working independently to manage operations.

This role is a fixed-term contract for 2 days per week from April 2026 - March 2028, employed by Market Gallery on a PAYE basis. Extension of the role beyond this is dependent on funding and how the role develops. The successful candidate is expected to work from Market Gallery’s building at 13 Ross Street on Wednesday’s to coincide with the committee, with one other regular day throughout the week and occasional flexible hours over the evening and weekend.

Salary: pro rata at the annual rate of £16,320 (£40,800 FTE), and workplace pension.
Holiday: 12 days per year and 4 days bank holiday.

TO APPLY:

Please send a single PDF comprising a letter describing your interest in the role and relevant experience (maximum 400 words), and a CV (maximum 2 pages) to [email protected]

Please label the file Firstname_Surname_PA_App.

DEADLINE: 1st April 2026 at 23:59.
