For the final artist in our 'Journey to the Islands' exhibition, we are introducing amateur photographer, Brian Clark. You may recognise Brian from the City Centre. He's a well-known character and a lovely guy. He started his photography journey in the 90's when he was travelling around Scotland, raising money for charity. We love the richness of colours, the composition of his work and the passion that he feels for every place he captures.

Brian's photographs are £25 each.

We always want to highlight the creators, no matter what their journey, no matter if they are traditionally trained. There are many reasons why someone may not have a formal art education, and although we value and appreciate those who have dedicated themselves to formal training, we think the talent that artists and creators exhibit is also valid. Some of our most popular artists in the gallery weren't formally trained, but hard work, dedication and an ability to capture the world in their own unique way sets them apart as artists/ creators.

We welcome artists from all walks of life, so please do not hold back from applying if you had a different path to art.

These are available from the gallery and on our website. This exhibition runs until Saturday the 4th of July. We offer Home Approval in the Glasgow and Greater Glasgow areas, where we deliver and hang the work for you, let you keep it for a few days to see if it's right for you. We also offer 12 months of interest-free credit on purchases.

Welcome to another Artist Spotlight for our 'Journey to the Islands' exhibition. Today, we have gallery newcomer Sarah Wakeford.

Sarah is a painter who is inspired by spending time in nature, switching off and tuning in. She describes her work as dreamy rich toned worlds you can drift away into. These paintings focus on how ever-changing conditions create a mood and an energy in the landscape that is both fleeting and powerful.

Sarah’s work explores the intersection of light, atmosphere, and emotional experience. She sees parallels between the human experience and the transient nature of light and weather conditions. Capturing the beauty of fleeting moments, blending darkness with the hope of a new dawn or guiding the way to renewal and brighter times.

Welcome to another Artist Spotlight for 'Journey to the Islands.' Today, we have returning artist, Lindsay Rutherford.

Throughout her life, Lindsay has travelled widely around the West Coast and Highlands of Scotland, and has spent many happy occasions on the Isle of Mull in particular. The stunning landscapes and seascapes of the Highlands remain in her heart today, even though she is now settled in the North East of England.

Lindsay draws inspiration from nature. This provides the initial ‘spark’ or impulse for her paintings. She enjoys colour and colourist work immensely, and builds thin layers of acrylic paint up on paper, stretched canvas or canvas board, working intuitively as the painting develops in front of her and tending towards abstraction and vibrant, rich hues.

Lindsay hopes to inspire and evoke a ‘sense of place’, rather than describing it literally, and aims to create an harmonious and balanced painted surface, with layers of colour, allowing for the work to develop organically and responding to it intuitively as the ‘flow state’ takes over. Lindsay hopes that viewers will find joy in looking at the work and bring their own memories and interpretations to her paintings.

Welcome to another Artist Spotlight for our 'Journey to the Islands' exhibition. Today, we have gallery newcomer Linda Ross. Linda studied Art and Design at Cardonald College which honed her skills in jewellery, pottery, photography, and graphics.

Life got in the way and Linda moved away from art for a while. She worked as an advertising administrator at the Telegraph, then with RBS for many years. She then moved to Cornwall and lived in a caravan in her horse’s field with her two dogs, removing the high-pressure roles and worked in a country club. Linda returned to Inverclyde in 2011, and after several years, returned to her love for art, taking studio space at Greenock Workshops.

Linda paints bold artworks using acrylics and oils, describing her work as, ‘Very Scottish’. Linda has so much to inspire her where she lives in Greenock. Her unique style really captures the beauty and the character in each place.

Welcome to another Artist Spotlight for our 'Journey to the Islands' exhibition. Today, we have gallery regular Isla Prentice.

One of Isla's favourite subjects is Scottish Landscapes. The Isle of Harris has captured her heart with its turquoise clear waters and it’s changing sky. Isla describes it as, "[...] a magical land with four seasons in one day which makes painting outdoors more adventurous." She often paints plein air around the beautiful Scottish landscapes.

Isla likes to be experimental with her style and works with various mediums. Her contemporary work is vibrant and dynamic, and really shows Scottish landscapes in their best light.

Welcome to another Artist Spotlight for our 'Journey to the Islands' exhibition. Today, we have gallery newcomer Stephen Murray.

Stephen works in a variety of mediums. He is particularly drawn to the transparency and fluidity of watercolour, and the sense of movement it brings to his work. In contrast, he approaches acrylics in a more physical and expressive way, often treating them as he would oils. Through the use of thick brushstrokes and palette knives, he builds texture and depth, allowing the surface to become an active part of the painting.

As a Glasgow-based artist, Stephen is continually inspired by his home city. Its architecture, colour, and character inform much of his work, often resulting in pieces with a moody, atmospheric quality.

Stephen’s landscapes and seascapes are approached with the same intent—to represent scenes as truthfully as possible, focusing on observation rather than illusion. Skies, in particular, play a vital role in his compositions, reflecting the shifting moods of the Scottish weather and influencing the rhythm of my mark-making.

Stephen Murray, 'Scarasaig Harbour, Isle Of Colonsay.' Framed: 59cmx70cm, acrylics on canvas. £700.

Stephen Murray, 'Rothesay Seafront, Isle Of Bute.' Framed: 61cmx50cm, acrylics on canvas. £600
