GoMA - Glasgow Museums

GoMA - Glasgow Museums GoMA is the most visited modern art gallery in Scotland. Entry is free. It plays an important part in the city’s rich heritage which continues today.
(1990)

GoMA is housed in an iconic building located in the heart of Glasgow, which it shares with the city centre library. For over 100 years the building was a centre for business and commercial exchange where information and goods were traded. GoMA continues that philosophy of exchange by being a centre for people to gather, discuss and learn, inspired by the art it collects and shows. GoMA believes in

working with every community of the city and has gained international recognition for its social engagement programming.

Can you believe it has been 3 years since Banksy’s unforgettable ‘Cut and Run’ exhibition? 🚫🎨

Jessica, one of our Gallery Assistants discusses why this is her favourite exhibition, ‘Starting as a gallery assistant in the midst of one of the biggest exhibitions GoMA has hosted to date was an experience I’ll never forget. From starting this job weeks prior to finding out the legendary Banksy was the mystery artist with his one off show ‘Cut and Run’, the buzz was honestly something I have never felt before. The whole experience was so unique to be around, no photography other than Polaroid cameras, people queuing for tickets from 6am hoping to see some of Banksy’s famous street art in real life. Still to this day ‘Cut and Run’ has got to be my favourite exhibition I have ever witnessed and I am so honoured to have got the chance to be a part of it all.’ 🤩

We still have original exhibition merchandise in our shop but there are a limited amount left so pop in and grab some whilst you can! 🛍️

Keep an eye on our socials for more about GoMA at 30 where we will be discussing our favourite exhibitions past and present! 🏛️

Found poetry opens up new possibilities to re-imagine a text and uncover different ways of interpreting what's already been established on the page. All materials will be provided, no experience necessary!

The Studio at GoMA is situated on the top floor of the building and is accessible via lift and stairs. There is a quiet space nearby and accessible toilets on the same level. Drinks and snacks will be provided during the session. We hope to see you there :)

Our award-winning GoMA Youth Group doesn’t just help talented young people influence our exhibitions and public programmes --- it gives them the opportunity to work with our learning and curatorial teams, giving them valuable experience of and insight into possible careers in culture.

We are about sharing with tomorrow’s artists, curators and educators.

Calling all mothers and caregivers! 📣 Join us for creative, art-based workshop inviting mothers and caregivers to step into the frame: to reflect, express and reimagine how museums can better see and support them.

📅 Friday, 22nd May, 11am-1pm

We'll create a collaborative poem from words found in the museum and design self-portraits of your "Everyday me" and "Museum me". Then, together, we'll build a mini "Ideal Museum" model to share our vision for change.

No artistic skills required! Just your voice, your story and your imagination!

This workshop is for mothers and caregivers. Children are welcome to attend with their caregiver, there will be a children's corner and they can join any part of the workshop.
FREE but please book a spot on Eventbrite here:

GoMA are delighted to announce the recent acquisition of - ‘Dirty Dancing Flowers (Orange Vibrate)’, 2024 and ‘IN THE STUDIO’, 2022 by Leanne Ross (1984-2025) for Glasgow Life Museums’ collection.

'Dirty Dancing Flowers (Orange Vibrate)’ (2024) was first presented in Leanne Ross’ ambitious exhibition 'Dirty Dancing Flowers' at Tramway, Glasgow (November 2024 – March 2025), where the GoMA curatorial team first encountered this work. It was an immediate and compelling choice for the collection, and we are deeply grateful to Leanne’s family for making this work available. We then faced a difficult decision: choosing one ‘Shout Out’ work to represent her practice more broadly within the collection. We selected ‘IN THE STUDIO’ as it resonated strongly with the museum as a perfect statement of intent, energy and joy, one we look forward to including in collection displays in the near future.

Leanne Ross was a founding member of - an artist collective studio based in Midlothian that brings together a diverse group of artists, with and without learning disabilities. Our Producer|Curator Katie Bruce had a fantastic visit to the studio back in January and it was a privilege to see the studio where Leanne worked and meet her fellow KMAdotcom artists.

A huge thank you to Kendall Koppe at Kendall for working with us to realise the acquisition.
