Really chuffed to be a part of things this year, along with James Groat. We come officially Highly Recommended by Celtic Connections. No pressure!

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Brokendavid

Broken David glimmers in the space between soaring and crashing to the ground, bringing a haunting sense of dislocation to songs that know their place. A guitar of rosewood and spruce gives a punch to both fingerstyle and percussive strumming that offset his achingly beautiful melodies.

David is joined by Orcadian multi instrumentalist James Groat, whose sensitive accompaniment adds layers of mandolin, banjo and dobro to the songs (though not all at the same time!).

The debut album ‘Weathering’ was launched in October 2024. Steeped in the weather of Orkney, where David lived for the last nine years, ‘Weathering’ is a long play eulogy to endurance, that’s just a bit battered by the breeze.

Really enjoyed this. The secret is to drink water quickly between the end of the song and answering the next question.

I'm delighted to say I've been awarded a new commission over the winter - working with Eden Court Theatre and the many roaded Lairg and surrounding area to make something wonderful to share with the world next June. Balmacara, Morvern and Skye each have their own artist as well so it will be a veritable Highland Tapas of cultural moreishness. Note: ruffs and skulls are optional. If you would like in on the act and have a connection to, or memory of, Lairg and the surrounding area, message me as we are collecting as many as we can over the next few months to inspire the performance. Hurrah!
